Thanks @naguilar. Most of the accounts I've read seemed to have had misfire issues and then the P0421 - in my case I had the P0421 first and then the misfire/poor idle. I'll pull the plugs tomorrow but unless something has suddenly failed they should be fine - I replaced them last year...
