The problem is not the engine, it is the transmission, and possibly the rest of the drivetrain. Mazda really needs a new 8sp auto. Something that can handle aggressive applications of that 310 lb ft of torque. -kp

You are correct that I was incorrect. Looks like I neglected to click on the AWD option for the 2018 which gave me a lower price for the 2018. I will correct my original post. -kp

I just looked at Mazda's web site and compared pricing for the 2018 GT AWD ($31,940) vs 2019 GT AWD ($32,440) a $500 increase*. I don't know offhand whether the 2019 includes options that were extra or not available on the 2018 GT but I think Mazda wants to go up market in search of higher...

My thoughts as well. The hatchback just looks awkward to me. AWD is great but I have a feeling we are looking at a car that is getting heavier and a lot more expensive. Time will tell. -kp

Long shot question, I know, but have you ever driven an Alfa Romeo Stelvio by chance? From what I have been reading 2018 models are going from about $10K-$12K below sticker (seems to vary by area). That puts some models in the CX-5 turbo price range. -kp
