    Misfire problem diagnosed!

Marc, this is GREAT!!!! I have a check engine light even after the EGR Valve and the plugs were replaced. It passed emissions with no problem. I have an oil change scheduled with the Mazda dealer and I'll be bringing a copy of this with me to show him how to do it.

Keeping my Protege5 Alive over 200K

Check engine light again at 162,000 I think it's a pesky spark plug wire or EGR valve. I can live with the check engine light on as the car rides as smooth as glass

hello im new and have a problem

I had my EGR valve replaced, and a month later had the air intake replaced as well as the spark plugs. I just got another "check engine" light. I believe it might be the PCV valve and I'm going to have the serpentine belt replaced as well. Will keep you posted. I've heard "check engine"...

Wheels and Tires for my P5

I've only replaced the tires--there are either Dunlops (great performance, but wear out quickly) or Goodyear Eagle's which are plentiful. I buy my stuff at TireRack.com Don't settle for anything else. I had these awful "generic" tires and hated them the entire time I owned them.

New to the forum. Not new to owning a P5.

What's great about a P5 is that they only made them for two years. It's kind of exclusive :-)

Keeping my Protege5 Alive over 200K

Hi, New London, CT here. I'm at 160,000 and just did my second brake job. Lots of tires, but love it. It still looks fresh when I walk up to it.

2002 P5 Owner New To Group

Hey there, I just joined today (1/21). Had my 2002 Pro5 since November 2001. A few "check engine" light issues but nothing to kill it. I keep up with the maintenance and it hasn't let me down yet. I'm close to 160,000 miles and it still drives smooth.

    PRO5.REL's NEW THREAD!

Nice--I've had my Pro5 since I bought it new in November 2001. 150,000 + miles -- lots of tires. A few "check engine" lights but nothing to keep it off the road.

    Long term Protege5 owner

Hi, I've owned my 2002 Mazda Protege5 since I bought it brand-new in 2001. I've got 157,000 happy miles on it. Lately I've been getting the "check engine" light on my dash. I've seen threads that show this as a frequent problem in the higher mileage cars. The car passed emmisions with flying...
