Thanks. I was thinking that the ECM was to help you pull more "efficiently" but wasn't necessarily critical for the engine's survival. I'm pretty sure it revises where the shift points are based on towing. Without it, I'm thinking the engine might just get slightly less mpg at the lower gears.

I understand that I can install an aftermarket receiver, wiring package and heavier duty transmission cooler. But, how critical is the engine conrol module? I have a 2800lb camper and we don't pull it very far, very often. We may take one trip (400 - 500 miles) a year. The rest of the...
