Keep some octane boost in the car if you are worried about not being able to find 91 or higher octane. It's cheaper than an engine rebuild!

The risk is detonation and damaged piston ring lands. Very bad. High octane fuel burns slower. It's easier for low octane fuel to explode (instead of burn) with high compression engines, or forced induction engines. Edit: Here's a good link with a more detailed explanation...

Check out the Cooper Weathermaster S/T2s. Excellent snow tire and studable if you need it. I've used them on all of my Winter vehicles for the last 6 seasons.

If you haven't already purchased your winter tires, I would recommend going with a 215 or 205 width. Narrow is better for winter.
