I'm not sure what you'd use to fix this... maybe some of those dashboard cleaning products? I'm not sure if painting it is an option... Might be easier to take it to one of those professional detailing places to go over and fix up the entire car before you sell But if you figure something out...

In case there's a slight difference between models, there's an easy way to check this: As soon as you see the light go on, take it to a gas station and fill it up (tank capacity minus gallons filled = how much gas left when the light comes on)... I usually have about 9-10 litres left (~2 gal)

I wouldn't mind knowing this as well - I have a 2000 also and I plan on changing my audio setup this coming summer

Congrats on the car! I picked up a 2000 dx about 5 months ago, and it's been running fine. I'm of the same mind as you, I want it to last a long long time, so any mods I'll be doing are going to be cosmetic. Other than that I guess just take care of it and it'll last longer
