That's correct. Thanks for the clarification. Rail dust is apparently surface rust and not covered by warranty. Rust-through would be covered. Surface rust or not it looks horrible and is unacceptable. This issue aside the CX has been a great vehicle.

The port-installed rails are covered by warranty as Mazda did not indicate that as an issue.

Sounds like you had a great test drive and were only disappointed with two things: 1. The seating position not when you're driving but rather when you're lounging in the car. 2. The BOSE stereo. If those are deal breakers then the Outback is the car for you.
