This 3rd gen is a much larger difference from the 2nd gen than the 2nd gen was over the 1st gen, especially with the hybrid powertrain coming next year.

There was also someone on Reddit at the time of the CX-5 announcement that mentioned the lower trims would have some manual controls. That would make some sense as the lower trims don't have automatic climate control and manual climate control would be difficult to operate only through a screen.

Mazda USA has said that the Turbo represents just 10% of CX-5 sales. So the lack of a Turbo will not cause CX-50 to overtake the CX-5. The US tariffs on the CX-5 could have a much bigger impact on sales.
