    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

My new engine arrived at the dealership earlier this week after being flown on a plane from Japan. It was a 3.5 month wait and it would have been longer if I had not contacted Mazda USA myself. Hoping to have it back next week. I'll report back.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

This sounds like a very viable hypothesis. The original diagnosis I received from the dealer was also a cracked block. Not sure why they can't get their diagnoses straight. The final diagnosis was the warped head and they provided quite a bit of detail regarding it when I went to see the engine...

I suspect that the modification to the head is related those leaking bolts/plugs and therefore requires a different exhaust manifold gasket. The exhaust manifold bolts on directly adjacent to those bolts/plugs. All speculation at this point.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

The failure as described by the dealer for my engine was a warped head caused by bolts leaking coolant and therefore the head overheating. I've pointed out the bolts in the photo below. These are at the exhaust manifold, so I suspect they changed that part of the head and therefore needed a new...

I agree on octane not being a likely contributor. I have run 87 octane 90% of the time. It's hard to say what the frequency of failure is at this point, but I would suspect it's well under 10% and may even be in the low single digits. My CX9 is a '16 and has 90k on it, so it is likely in a small...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

I just received confirmation that the new parts are redesigned. This includes the head and exhaust manifold gasket. The combination is reported to reduce the overall force on the head. The change is reported to have happened 6 months ago, so I guess that means that the problem exists right...

I'm not sure. I'll ask next time I speak with the service rep.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

Thanks for putting this form together. It will be interesting to see the results. I just got off the phone with Mazda USA regarding our 2016 and after a 3 month wait for a new engine, they have escalated it to the top level and will be flying the part from Japan as soon as they can coordinate...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

I didn't see any significant coolant loss until it started leaking out of the back of the engine. The low coolant light never came on and the car never indicated an overheat condition. The diagnosis is officially a warped head. I have been waiting about 3 months for the repair now and the dealer...

It was around $2k when purchased with the car. It is a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty with no deductible. It was the first time I’ve ever bought an extended warranty, but I was worried specifically about the engine being a new design. The warranty has also covered some other more minor issues.

    The warranty is from Zurich.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

My 2016 GT with 90k has been at the dealer for 2 months awaiting the arrival of a new engine. Luckily I had a third party extended warranty. The diagnosis for my failure is a warped head, but I suspect there is more to it with the whole engine being replaced. The engine was supposed to arrive...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

I have a 2016 CX-9 with 90K that started leaking anti-freeze on the rear of the engine 3 weeks ago. It has been at the dealer for two weeks and the diagnoses have ranged from cracked block to cracked head to the current diagnosis of warped head. Supposedly plugs in the head started leaking and...
