Bumping an old thread but I wonder how his filter worked out or how far the car travelled.

Sorry/not sorry to bring up an old thread, I believe the reason the cars overestimate the MPG or in my case L/100km is because they want you to fill up the car before the tank is too low so by overestimating, the tank will show less km or miles remaining to prevent issues with low fuel.
