I lubricated the slider pins on our 2015 Mazda 3 last year but discovered this year that the problem was actually the ends of the pads jamming against the shims. Perhaps it's our salty roads, but personally, I'd strip them down and lubricate everything properly.
I've just had my 4th year service done on my late 2014 diesel, at approx 40k miles, and one year and 10k miles since it's last service. Forscan said my oil dilution was 0, and the oil level has been on the max mark (not the over high x mark) for the whole year. The car gets quite an easy life...

In post #10 it shows images of the NB1 and the later MazdaConnect systems. It seems inly the MazdaConnect system is updateable, and I think you have the NB1.

We use both fobs, swapping them over every month or two, and got a bit under a year from the original batteries on our Mazda 3 with keyless entry. We've since had a bit over a year from the replacements and not had any warnings yet.
On our UK Mazda 3 with the infotainment system some settings are greyed out unless you meet a certain criteria. I haven't played about with ours for a while but IIRC you need the engine running but the car not moving, or the handbrake on, or the headlights on, or something similar.
