    Motor Mount Replacement Suggestions

I went with aftermarket mounts that were made by Anchor (sp)? They all fit just fine. I got them through Rock Auto. I never compared cost to OEM, but I'm sure it saved a few dollars. I took the rear lower mount (the one between the firewall and the back of the transmission) and the front...

    FS-DE Crankshaft Thrust Spec. ?

Hi All, I just dropped in a remanufactured motor and I'm having a difficult time finding a good spec. on what crankshaft end play, or thrust, should be. I've checked it and I'm at .010. I'm thinking that it may be OK but towards the max of what it should be. This is on a stock, normally...

    Belt squeal

[I]" Nope. Not design. Proper installation of Daycos do not squeal." As I've indicated in my previous post, proper installation of Dayco belts do squeal. I'm not saying you have not had good luck with them. What I am saying, however, is that you are being presumptuous claiming it is not a...

    Belt squeal

I vote for a design problem as well. I have tried Goodyear, Dayco & Gates belts as well as taking a soaking once at the dealer for Mazda belts. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, not tensioning, not pulley cleaning, not new belts keeps my Mazda belt from squealing at random times.

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

I'm not sure we'll ever know for sure. I don't think I'll be pulling the pistons. I'll talk to the shop that is sending the reman and see if they care how the core arrives to them. If they don't mind it being pulled apart past the long block, I suppose I could pull the pistons before sending it.

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

I don't get it ??? Why your car ??? You did everything right ??? Why don't you ask me how many aircraft I've had drop out of the sky? If I didn't know better, I'd say you were accusing me of being some kind of knucklehead when it comes to maintaining vehicles ! ;)

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

You know, the more I think about this engine and the issue we are talking about here, the more I might just have to admit you are right. This engine probably does need 3,000 mile oil changes to stay healthy. Every manufacturer out there is going to extended drain intervals. Numerous vehicles...

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

Soon there won't be any P5's on the road. It is not just my car. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123700949-FS-DE-Oil-System That thread is over 55 pages long. You yourself posted a link to a thread discussing ring issues. How many flaws have to be in an engine for it to be...

Inadequate oiling system if you ask me. Just like the inadequate electrical system. They were both under engineered.

And trust me the ring soak is going to do this engine no good. It's making metal.

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

I'm an aircraft mechanic with over 25 years of experience in my trade. I have more time wrenching on cars than that, although not as my livelihood. I have never had an engine (of any other make, foreign or domestic) do this to me. I generally know what I am doing when it comes to mechanical...

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

Through this forum I have heard of the rings and the PCV valve issue. The rings could be seized in this engine because the compression is horribly low. It is relatively even across all 4 cylinders. 121, 119, 130, 124. With a few squirts of oil in the cylinders the compression came up to...

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

My problem started about 2 years ago and I have been nursing it ever since. It is my wife's car and she only puts about 6,000 miles a year on it now. I've just been dumping oil as that is really the cheapest way to go. Not very environmentally friendly though, and sooner or later I'm going to...

    Life expectancy/reliability of Protege

I have maintained my 2002 meticulously since new. As I write this I'm waiting on a remanufactured motor to arrive so I can change the 140,000 mile original out. The rings are gone and I consume 1qt of oil every 200 miles. It has had synthetic oil all of it's life. I have no idea what went...

    p5 airbag question??

A code 37 is for the passenger side, side airbag. Just as a few here have suggested, the connector under the seat could be the cause. [B]CAUTION!! ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT AT LEAST 1 MINUTE BEFORE SERVICING THE AIRBAG SYSTEM.[B] I should have stated that in my...
