What type of mpg are you getting, turbo owners?

:
2019 CX-5 GTR
My mpg seems pretty low.

My daily commute to work is about 5.5 miles each way.

It's still in the breaking in period (600 total miles) so I dont press on it hard.

Granted it's pretty much stop and go traffic 5.5 miles each way however, I'm only getting 18-19 mpg.

Even when I fill up the car at the gas station its showing 310 miles total estimated mileage.

Seems very low no?

No. Sounds normal to me. MPG improves with longer trips that aren't stop and go. Stop and go and/or short trips ruin the MPG.

I have a CX-9, but same turbo engine. I've been consistent at 21-23 MPG mixed driving, and during our last roadtrip it went to as much as 29 MPG average during pure highway driving.

With 5.5 miles each way you probably don't even reach full operating temp, which can affect MPGs.

My commute is around 30 miles 1 way and on backroads averaging 45-70mph. When I fueled up tonight, I hand-calculated 28.8mpg (it had risen to 28.1 per computer, by then).

'19 Sig with mixed city/hwy driving trips average 20-30 miles each. 91 octane fill ups since ownership comparing calculated mpg vs. dash displayed per trip reset after each fill up.

02/01/19 *302.0/11.259 = 26.82 (disp 24.9)
02/12/19 271.0/11.436 = 23.70 (disp 23.9)
02/26/19 289.9/11.098 = 26.12 (disp 25.3)
03/07/19 280.5/11.306 = 24.81 (disp 25.5)
03/18/19 291.0/11.291 = 25.77 (disp 25.8)
03/28/19 293.9/10.757 = 27.32 (disp 26.2)

Yes, I am a bit OCD.

I don't have the turbo, but my worst mpg is for the first 4 miles or so. It is cold and the transmission shifts at higher rpms. Couple that with stop and go traffic and mpg will be low. Try taking the long way to work or to home and check the mpg. It is much better for the car to reach normal operating temperature too.

I am just at the end of my second tank of gas (about 575 miles).

The first tank was a little over 23 MPG.
This second tank is nearly 25 MPG (not Total So Far, but just that tank of gas).

I'm retired, so no daily commuting. My shortest trip is 10 miles except for hops between stores sometimes. I live in a very rural area with lots of curves and rolling hills. I'm not stop & go, but I am perpetual accelerate/decelerate. Very little driving under 45MPH.

That first tank of gas had about 10 highway (70MPH) miles on it.
The second tank of gas had maybe 90 highway miles on it (a 45 mile round trip).

I will say that if you have a lot of short-trip, stop & go miles (especially in cold weather), you might want to get it out on a highway once a week and drive it for a while at normal operating temps.

'19 GTR - 3,800mi currently
40mi commute each way, 90% highway
Avg between 60 and 80mph, depending on traffic
using 87 octane
Results = ~27mpg every tankful

You know what I think would also be helpful is to post what the speed limit is on the highways you guys/gals are driving on.

I drive a lot of highways but that includes a lot of stop and go ;)

I moved to the country from the Washington DC area. There is a window between 2:00 AM and 3:45 AM where you can do the posted speed limit there...on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Lol!

Yeah...I'd like to move back up to the mountains at some point.

Lots of mpg threads and this one seemed as good as any to post in so excuse the bump from 2019. Hit a milestone odometer number of 10K miles this week. I haven't reset the mpg calculator since day one of ownership. Currently at 27.2 mpg and still slowly climbing. It would be higher at this point but a 900+ mile trip involved three hours of walking-pace traffic followed by multiple hours of 80-90 mph interstate. My normal 25 mile rural drive over a couple of mountain passes yields 30-35mpg, so I'm hoping to see a combined average of 28-29 by the time the odometer hits 20K.

2021 GTR averaging 26.3 to 26.8 over 2,000 mile average distance. Highest single tank was 28.3 and lowest was 24.7. Easy Urban driving with AC on 100%. Here in flat Florida.

After a little more than 2 1/2 years, we're averaging about 19. Still better than what we traded in, which was a 2010 CR-V.
