Please note that "snow tires" are not only better for snow, they are better for low temperatures also. The rubber compound used in summer tires and all-season tires becomes harder and less grippy when temps are below about 40°. If your area in the winter has temps steadily in the 30's or lower you will have better traction in dry and wet with tires that are designed for colder temperatures. I live in Maryland and while we can get a fair amount of snow every now and then, the temps can be quite cool all winter. Both my lovely bride and I have snow tires that go on about the end of November or so and we run them all winter.
