TPMS 2014 vs 2020

Just bought our 2020 CX5 which is a replacement for our 2014 CX5. I put the winter tires from our 2014 onto the 2020 and of course the TPMS warning came on. Does anyone know if the 2014 sensors are compatible with the 2020 system?

There were no sensors on the 2014, the TPMS was based on the ABS wheel sensors. Starting in 2017 with Gen 2, Mazda went to the in tire sensors. So, you will need to add sensors to your winter setup.

You can either get 4 TPMS sensors and install them to the winter tires, or you can just let the TPMS warning light on without installing the TPMS sensors. For TPMS sensors, you can either get OEM or after-market ones. OEM runs about $68.58 each and after-market one such as Autel MX-Sensor 2 in 1 (315MHz + 433MHz) Clamp-in 100% Cloneable TPMS Programmable Sensor runs about $29,95 each. When you get after-market sensors, make sure the seller programmed the sensors to be Mazda CX-5 TPMS compatible.

I don't know about that compatibility - the 2021 cars do not display individual tire pressures. I don't know if that is due to the sensor, the display and the MyMazda app, or both.

I see less expensive ones on Amazon and Ebay that claim to be compatible. Some, pre-programmed for Mazda.

In order to tell which tire is low, the sensors have to be registered to the car by location so the car knows which tire location it is reading with a registration tool. Guess what, when you rotate the tires you have to reregister the sensor to the new tire location. I have a 2000 Corvette with sensors that display tire pressure in each tire but the tires are directional and larger on rear so no rotation.
