2008 Mazda5 Touring
I received and email from mazda today about the unveiling of the SKYACTIV platform at the New York Auto Show tomorrow and thought I'd share. 10:25 CT for me.

While I was checking out the info, they list a SKYACTIV-D (diesel) engine that meets North American emission standards. Maybe you already knew, but I didn't. Does this mean they'll bring it to these shores? I sure hope so!

Coming to the US is only part of the battle. Now they have to offer it in the Mazda5 and price it reasonably. I sure hope it comes!

I'm going to the NY Auto show this weekend and look forward to all of the 2012 and concept cars. I'll be sure ask if Sky-D is planned for the 5 -not that I'll get a straight answer :p

Well, considering their vehicle/engine lineup isn't very extensive, I'd think that getting it here is the biggest battle. We shall see. Take lots of pics!

Wasn't impressed with the show, or maybe I was expecting too much... I am most disappointed that Ford did not even have a display for the C-Max.?. I was looking forward to sitting inside to get a feel of its size. At least the Phila Auto Show had the car on a roped off stand -strange. Sorry, hardly took any pictures. You are probably better off looking at pics by professionals.

The Mazda reps did't sound like they know too much but here are a few key points:
-US will get the Sky-D but it is slightly delayed! Sky-G Mazda3 will be released this fall as the 2012 model. Expect Sky-D sometime in 2013 so I assume we will see it in the fall of 2012 release as 2013 cars. Mazda3 is a given but don’t know what else will carry it.
-All of Mazda’s lineup will have one or both Sky engines available.

Hopefully we don't have to get the automatic transmission to get the SKYACTIV engine.

To be honest I would get a BMW diesel before I get a Mazda Diesel. They have been in use in the Euro market for much longer. I'm not bagging on it one bit I'm excited to see it and hope it well worth it. But I have heard some rumors at a mazda dealership that with the Sky-active engine they might be discontinuing making the Speed models. I don't know if this is true, I sure hope not.
