Will I notice anything going from a +45 offset down to a +35 offset?

When you go to wider wheels/tires and lower offsets, be prepared to either install mudguards or deal with a dirtier car. This is because the exposed tire treads will kick water/mud up the sides of the car more easily.

Also, moving to a wider wheel/tire may result in improved traction, but it will also likely result in more rolling resistance due to increased weight. These are very minor changes that are marginal for most, but it might be worth noting.

Thanks Sm1ke appreciate it, seems like the benefits outweigh the negatives.

In many cases, that's true. For example, sometimes the OEM wheels are quite heavy. Usually this is due to the design (more spokes = more material = more weight) but often they are cast this way to improve durability. The OEM 20x8.5 CX-9 wheel weighs 39.55 lbs, while one of my current 22x10.5 wheels weighs 36 lbs. The extra width means more rolling resistance which should equate to a decrease in mileage, but the reduction in unsprung weight appears to offset the decrease in mileage (at least in my experience). Plus I like the looks, and the tires perform a little better, so in the end, it's a net positive for me.

Anyone have pics of this setup
19x8.5|5x114|45 19" 815kg CB73.1
Maybe with 255/50/19 tyres
And what do you think on this rim on a gen 1 cx5

reason I am asking is I don’t like the et45 offset and would have preferred et35-40.

1st one is an A-LINE Hostile MATTCHG Matt Grey
2nd A-Line Bombay

If it is for gen 1, I prefer A-line Bombay since the body of gen 1 is kind of bulk and fat. that is my prefer tho.
which one do you like the most?

The bombay actually, it’s got more meat and appealing to the eye. Waiting to see the et they come out with, hopefully between 35-40. If it’s 45 et, how do you think it will look with 255/50/19. In the interim I can use my 235/55/19 in the meantime, will there be any rubbing issues.

The Bombay’s I’ll make then antracite, gloss black or Matt black. Which black suits the cx-5 best with the existing black trim.

Anyone have any experience running 10” wide wheels in the front? I’ve seen staggered setups with 10” in rear but wondering if anyone tried square

Hey guys! I've just mounted these 20x8.5" Zito 935 Matt Gray wheels on my CX-5, wrapped in 255/45R20 Vredesteins. Initially I went with ET30 but they were sticking out quite a bit so I had them changed to ET40 and now they are pretty much flush (10mm made all the difference). The ride is noticeably firmer and the noise is also quite intrusive (even tho I chose the Vredesteins because they were advertised as being 70db instead of 72 or 73 as most other options in this size) and turning the wheel became slightly harder, especially at low speeds. So all in all a step back in comfort but damn, they look good.

Truck looks great man - I got the same color 2017 Touring. I'm getting my wheels next week and excited to see how they look.

Hey guys

need some advice it this will work.

my current setup is stock 19” with 235/55/19
I want to fit a rim that’s also 19”, but same tyres
New rim is 19” 9.5J ET 42
I’m not lowering the car and wanted to know if I can use the same 235 tyre.

will the 235/55/19 tyre fit ok on the 9.5J rim and secondly if I will experience any rubbing of some sorts when turning sharp or going over bumps.

1st one is the 9.5j ET 42 114.3
2nd is a 20” 8J ET 45
3rd one is 19” 112 pcd
Last one is Merc Rep 5X112 PCD19X8.5 ET : 42

I’m leaning more towards options 1 and 2 as they are 114.3

Orange is OEM, green is your proposed setup. Use the info in the purple section and grab a tape measure to make sure there are no clearance issues. Note that the tire is pretty stretched for a CUV - I would advise against turning too sharply with this setup as you are more likely to break the bead seal vs. a correctly sized tire.

This doesn't answer all of your questions, but it's a good place to start. Hopefully others running similar setups can chime in.

Just bought a set of Rial Lucca 17' for the CX-5.

Decided to stay with OEM size, Factory Mazda lug nuts work with these wheels is a big plus.

Installed new wheels and caliper covers today. Very happy with the look but I got a squeak on one of the caliper covers. Believe it has to be the left rear. They all went on so easy besides that one. I tried it 20’different ways and the test strip for clearance just would not work on the top clip. Anyone experience this before?
