Seatbelt latch clip inside not retracting

So my 5 year old decided to pick up some broken shards of glass, thankfully not pointy and unbeknownst to me shoved them in the 2nd row passenger seat belt slot of my new 21 CX-9 ( he may not live to see 7) I was able to dislodge all of the glass but now the seatbelt metal clip wont stay fastened in the latch. There is a small mechanism inside that when you push tge red seatbelt button retracts and allows the metal to clasp in the belt holder. Anyone have ideas how to fix it?

It still has some glass in there. Try removing it it, hold it upside down, and blow it out again while you work the mechanism. If it doesn't free up, replace it. Don't lube with anything that could get gummy, hold dirt, and fail to operate (including WD-40).

Thankfully I was able to jimmy a small screwdriver and cleared whatever was in there so the mechanism now retracts allowing the seatbelt latch to click in...

Child still alive.
