Rear Hatch Wont Open

Recently my rear hatch has been intermittently not opening and Im trying to figure out if the issue is the button near the licence plate ot the lock actuator at the bottom centre of the hatch.

Ive tried locking and unlocking the car and the button still doesnt respond. Then minutes later it starts working again and I can open the hatch normally.

Any ideas on how I can test? I would rather not replace both parts.

If its under warranty and your dealer can see it directly - do that. They will replace whatever is necessary. If you fix it out of pocket that would be a waste of money.

Unfortunately, Im out of warranty.

In my case the switch and harness were bad from water leaking in through a damaged seal around the rear wiper shaft. Try the switch first (~$35.00 USD) but if it acts up again you may have a leak and might need a new harness due to corrosion.
