Poor quality rotors?

Hi, everyone.
I’d greatly appreciated any feedback on the condition of my driver’s side rotors. Passenger side look fine. Car is parallel parked on street, sat for a week or so after a snowstorm this past winter. I’m trying to figure out if this is my fault or if the rotors are just poor quality.

2016.5 GT, 37k, purchased 11/19

Thank you!

Front or rear?

Wait, in post #1 the OP states that the rotors are on the passenger’s side are fine. Then in post #3 he says the passenger side is pitted/rusted. Which is it???

From the photo I can’t tell if the roughness is damage or pad material normally deposited on the rotors. Original rotors/pads? Mazda rotors are not known to be of “poor quality”.

I’m so sorry, my original post was correct - driver’s side (front and rear) appear pitted?/rusted, passenger side looks normal. Could road salt/sitting on the street for a week after a snowstorm have caused this? Car was “perfect” according to dealer when it was serviced late December. Thank you for your help!

As many folks on here know, my rear rotors are toast after only 13,000 miles (22,000 kms).
I tend to think it's a combination of driving environment, and less than stellar quality parts (I'm being kind here).
I haven't changed mine out yet, as the good weather has only just started to hit us, but I'll be going with other than OEM rotors when the time comes. It's just a matter of deciding which brand.

Rotor are not stainless steel and do rust easily. Even just washing your car causes rotors to flash rust. Driving a half mile and applying the brakes remove the rust on the part thats touched by the pads.
of course road salted roads Only make it worse.

I sold my 2007 CX7 and my 2014 CX5 at ~ 80,000 miles each and the rotors were nice and shiny without any groves. Same pads that came with the vehicles. I think the rotors are good quality. Ed

Was that the side facing the street?

Have you driven it yet? Surface rust is normal and will come off after applying the brakes a few times.

Looks normal to me. Salt spray was splashed onto the rotors from the street and caused the rust. Drive it then see how it looks afterwards as compared to the other side.
