PCB's Unbuild Thread

My Coleman stove is ancient.
You could fuel it with gasoline.
Back in the day before they put alcohol in the gas.

Naptha is about $20 a gallon.

I'm not sure if those closeout parts are still available, but the link still works.

You can also Google a 5% off RockAuto discount code.
My latest code has expired.

(it's hard to find a working code that is more than 5%)

Read this whole thread... I am now frustrated by your frustrations.. lol Once Texas is done with 87 million hurricanes and tropical storms this year, I should move there. I hate the cold. I hate cold tools the most. Nothing worse than grabbing a wrench and it being so cold it hurts your bones. I'm not in Canada either, Mid-Atlantic US... We don't get your kinda cold.

Paint... rustoleum is fine to recoat/respray.. clear coat is the magic... make sure you use SprayMax 2K clear... it has a hardener in it and is a 2 part clear like the factories use, but is in a spray can. I read through your wing adventures biting my nails because I knew the end result before you posted it... Tips for better results in the future: keep coats light. 10 minutes between coats... release spray at the end of each horizontal movement... no runs. (y)

My wing was a disaster. Lol

I should have at least bought a quality clear coat. Fortunately, I don't really care too much. It's just an old rusty car, but it sucks to lose my enthusiasm for it. I'm just doing regular maintenance now and don't want to spend too much money on it.

The car won't pass safety now because of the rust and is only worth about $250 as scrap metal.

I wash the car once a year and haven't cleaned it inside for years. Lol

I noticed steam rising out from under my hood a few days ago so I took a look and found my overflow tank was empty. I filled it back up but found it empty again yesterday then noticed a small drip coming from the top of the radiator.

I decided to try the easy thing and put some "Liquid Aluminum Radiator Stop Leak". I did a bit of research and found out that the new age stuff is much better than the old school stuff. The old school stuff is gooey and can plug up your radiator but the new stuff is far less inclined to do that, and it actually helps the system conduct heat.

I followed the directions and it appears to have worked.

A couple of people said it plugged up their heater core, but I have lots of heat in the cab, and it may actually be hotter with the liquid aluminum in it.

So far, so good.

Well, the stop leak didn't work, so I decided to swap out the radiator with the one from the parts car.

I was dreading doing it, thinking it would end up taking me a week to finish, but it turned out to be quick and easy !!
I did snap and strip a few rusty bolts but I managed to work around it with the bolts from the parts car.

I got it installed and all appears to be well with no leaks.

I'll drive it a few times to see if everything is good.

I ended up putting the other half can of stop leak in with the new rad.
It's supposed to stay there waiting to plug up any new leak, and it's supposed to help conduct heat and bring down the water temperatures.

My heater is still blowing hot so it didn't plug it up.
It may actually be hotter now because it should conduct heat better?

Good to hear the rad was an easy swap! How was bleeding the cooling system afterwards?

I ran into a bit of a problem with that.
I drained the fluid until it stopped dripping then swapped the rads and went to refill the rad.
Our cooling system holds 7.5 liters and I had a 3.78-liter jug of unmixed fluid, so I thought I'd just dump the jug in, and then top it up with distilled water.
I didn't even get the full jug in and the rad was full??

I was like, WTF?
So, the engine itself didn't drain, and I just put straight antifreeze in!

I managed to siphon off a bit of fluid from the top of the rad and then top it up with water, (a turkey baster from the dollar store works great)
The fluid in the engine was a 50/50 mix and I figure as long as I don't go past a 30/70 mix, I should be fine.

I went for a couple of short drives to test for leaks and to stir the fluid and make sure that the fan comes on and I'm still blowing heat in the cab.

So I didn't really have to bleed the system, because it never drained. Lol

I've got a rad fluid tester that I'm going to use today to check it and I'll have to drain some and top it up with water if it's too rich.

I should have just mixed the fluid before pouring it into the rad.
Duh. Lol

I didn't take any pictures because I just wanted to get it done and it was feeling like a chore that might take me a week to finish, but it went quite smoothly with luck on my side.

No, .
My parts car came with some fancy West Wing spoilers but they're all broken and they don't fit right.

The rad is doing fine.
No leaks and no overheating.
I checked the fluid and the mixture is okay.
There's lots of heat in the cab.

I ditched the Google and now all my pictures have been deleted.

I'll post my pictures here on this forum now.

Maybe I can just upload a huge file with all the disorganized pictures??

I rejoined the Google spy network. Lol

My pictures are back now.

EDIT: It looks like my pictures are still gone?

They came back on my other forum?

I managed to find a bunch of pictures of my car that got lost.

They're in no particular order.

This was my neighbours RX8.
You can see the rust on it too.
