Oil Filter Question

What’s wrong with the oem filter? The cx9 2.5t has a different filter vs the rest of the mazda lineup due to higher oil pressure, why would you even consider aftermarket filter?

Because of the sourcing concerns for the OEM filter. Bosch is known for high quality products, so I was wondering if one of their filters would work.

I would stick with oem filter if possible, especially with the 2.5t, i highly doubt manufacture like bosch would make a individual filter just for the 2.5t

I've looked through the forum and people are saying that finding the higher quality Japanese filter's is getting more difficult? Is the Bosch 3300/D3300 filter for a CX-9 compatible?

Most after-market oil filters are designed as one-size-fit-all. Bosch 3300 is for both Mazda’s SkyActiv-G 2.5L and 2.5T and many other vehicles. It also has anti-drain back valve for use by other engines. On the other hand, Mazda designed 2 different OEM oil filters specifically for 2.5L and 2.5T. It’s easy to see the OEM oil filter is the best for your 2.5T, even though currently you can only get Thai-made Denso OEM oil filter in the US.

Is there a reliable way to obtain the OEM Japanese ones though. I currently live 1.5h away from my closest Mazda dealership.
Mazda North American Operations had stopped importing Japanese made Tokyo Roki PY8W-14-302 oil filter which has been installing on 2.5T at the factory. Mazda dealers or all Mazda online sellers most likely have only Thai made Denso 1WPY-14-302 oil filter available for sell right now in the US. There’re a few eBay sellers may still import and sell Japanese filter by themselves. If you really want Japanese made, Tokyo Roki PY8W-14-302 oil filter for your 2.5T, make sure to communicate the on-line seller first. Most likely you’ll receive Thai oil filter instead and the seller will claim the PY8W-14-302 has been superseded by 1WPY-14-302.

BTW, Thai made OEM Denso 1WPY-14-302 oil filter has excellent quality and use it without any hesitation!

Agree with everyone so far.

I would get the Thai oem filter (ask for it from the dealer or buy from a dealer online) and wouldn't bother too much that you cant source the japan filter. Japan oem or the Thai oem same end result. they do its job very well.

Just don't get aftermarket ones (bosch or any other brand), not worth it in my opinion.

I bought a bunch if wix filters. They have an excellent reputation and designed for the Skyactive NA engine. Not the turbo.

6-packs has multiple sellers if you look on the right hand side of likn posted^. I selected Avondale Mazda mainly since thats where we got our car from and where I usually order OEM parts from. If there's an issue I can take it up with them locally.....have no experience with the other sellers though.

I’d try this $50 6-pack:

Mazda CX-9 2016-2017 six New genuine OEM oil filters with gaskets PY8W-14-302

Of course I’d contact the seller zoomparts1 first making sure the oil filter he’s selling is exactly the same as the picture and title shown: the Japanese made、Tokyo Roki limited edition Jordans oil filter!
Tokyo Roki filters are unicorns only found on new factory built engines....and maybe a few dealers here and there. That said don't be surprised if you get something else in the mail :(

Here's a new TR Filter cut open recently: https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/foru...v-oe-tokyo-roki-cut-open.322462/#post-5345259

Edit...........I'm happy with the Thailand filters. I can save money for Ammo....wait lol
