Do you happen to know if only certain ECUs work with an automatic transmission with Tiptronic?

I don't know that for sure, however I can confirm that the manual ECU is different from the tiptronic, and the WIRING is different for tiptronic versus normal automatic. The vehicle I converted was actually a tiptronic.

I was trying to help the guy looking for a new ECU for his car.

My wiring diagrams show that Tiptronic was added to the ECU in 2002.5, so I thought any ECU from an automatic built after 2002.5 would work, but I don't know?

I think I put the auto ECU in a box of parts that went away with the leftover parts car. I would check the part number to be sure.

Let me get with my Mazda parts buddy and see if he can shed some light.

EDIT: The guy who took my parts car is also local to me, so I'll try and contact him to see if he still has the ECU. I don't imagine that he would need it himself.
