Got a response from Mazda Australia Social Media Team that said Mazda Corporation is working with Google re how Android Auto can be introduced for Oz land but no further info at this time.

I read an article on the recent Toyota announcement to include CarPlay in their cars. News out this week suggests that Toyota and Lexus in Australia wont be getting it in the 2018/2019 model cars. And there is no time frame for a local release. So chances are we wont get anything from Mazda either here any time soon.

Toyota and Mazda are not the same company. I understand they have a partnership to develop an infotainment system together, but the software these systems run will be completely up to each manufacturer. The hardware in current models already supports the ability for mirroring. I'm not suggesting one way or another whether or not they'll enable Android Auto in Australia, but I will say I don't think we can gain any valuable insights based what Toyota is doing

I'd say sometime next year will be the roll out here for Mazda

Android Auto & Car Play Coming Confirmed

Seems like 2018 and 2019, crappy part is it seems it might be something you have to pay extra for, vs download onto a USB stick-type upgrade.

"Starting this fall, those current owners, if their car or SUV is equipped with the Mazda Connect system, will be able to purchase a retrofit kit as a Mazda Genuine Accessory. That includes the 2014 Mazda3 right up to the 2018 Mazda6, which will go on sale this spring."

The non-crappy part is you have the ability to upgrade if you desire. They could easily not release it as a retro kit

Yup and as long as they price it reasonably, like Ford did, it’s fine in my opinion. Fords needed upgrade had an MSRP under $100.

Skeptical. Shouldn't every article have that info?
Edit/ Thank you

That's just speculation. This isn't completely based on anything released from Mazda, but rather fragments of a vague, Mazda press briefing, and bits and pieces from international Mazda websites.
People on this forum have already discussed and dissected Mazda's press release word-by-word, and I wouldn't be surprised if guideautoweb got some of those insights from this forum.

This discussion is turning into an echo chamber

Did the hack today and put it on my car.
I gotta admit one thing: it is nice having a reason to actually use the voice activation button on the steering wheel. [emoji38]

Any pictures of the MZD connect screen with this hack (uhm)
