Mazda6 2014 died - Dealer says faulty PCM caused by faulty Injectors!?

Hello all

Thursday night my Mazda 6 Sport 2191cc diesel manual cut out completely while driving home from work. Primary error showing on dash display was 'keyless system inspection required'. Toggling through the ignition states gives me all lights on the dash and multiple errors (engine management, sbcs failure etc.) No crank from the engine. Got towed home and then arranged for vehicle to be towed to dealer on the following day.

Dealer are saying faulty PCM likely taken out by likely also faulty Fuel Injectors, total cost £1200 to replace PCM, £3000 if the injectors need to be changed. they are saying they won't know if the injectors need to be replaced until the new PCM has been installed. If I want to go ahead the cost is non-refundable/returnable.
It's out of warranty but not that old, 2014. Full dealer service history (apart from last service at the lease company I bought from). Literally just clocked 70k so not huge mileage.

Clearly gutted, any help/advice that can be given would be really appreciated. Would be good to know if anyone else has seen this exact problem, is it a common issue?

After 10 years of ownership, Lexus replaced our RX400h's entire dash because it was getting soft in places and had a small crack. This was 6 years after the warranty.

If I were you, I'd take your issue up the chain of command to get some compensation for something that should not happen unless it were your fault because, let's say, you somehow accidentally used gasoline in your fuel tank. Mazda is the second most reliable car brand in the US. Something like this is probably not common even outside the US, I would guess.

I would suggest getting a second opinion, but with the vehicle non-operational, the cost to tow back and forth may not be worth it. I'll second concept's suggestion to escalate up to Mazda Corporate. Also, I would ask the dealer's mechanics if they were able to pull any codes, and find out what those codes were. Then you can look them up and possibly confirm for yourself that the PCM should be replaced. In any event, see what Mazda Corporate says before moving any further with the dealer. Good luck!

First of all thanks to everyone that read/replied.

Update; dealer have called today to advise the car is now fixed! Turns out it was the PCM and fortunately didn't need to replace the fuel injectors. Dealership were VERY helpful, I managed to source a used PCM from a scrapyard and the dealership reprogrammed this to the vehicle. Total cost has ended up being £400. Not a small amount of money but not £4200! What's interesting is I also spoke to an ECU repair company who said they had seen a very similar issue on a Mazda CX5 SKYACTIV-D 2.2 engine only 2 weeks before! So just beware guys.

I've complained to Mazda and heard nothing. Gave them time to respond but heard nothing so posted a negative review on Trustpilot.

Thanks again for everyone's support.

Thanks for replying and for the pointer about getting in touch with the manufacturer. I did that, but heard nothing on this occasion unfortunately.

Thanks for responded, turned out the dealership was 100% on point on this occasion and very helpful. Credit to Edwards, Mazda in the UK.

Hi, having an issue with my ecu too. I supplied a second hand one to the dealer but they’ve said it can’t be reprogrammed to another car. When you sourced a replacement did you get the exact same part number. Mines the same except for the last letter, which I’m told is a slightly newer model. It’s like an S instead of an L. Thanks in advance

Hello, turned out it had to be EXACTLY the same part number. I asked the dealer to send me a photo of my ECU and then compared with a photo from the scrapyard.

Hello just read about your ECU advice. my 2014 Mazda 6 Sports Nav. Automatic is showing similar faults.. its going in to s specialist after Christmas. After research I am expecting it to need a replacement ECU. I have sourced one from a scrap yard. thanks for the advice re part number.

Hi, no problem. Good luck to you and fingers crossed it's not your injectors 🤞
