How is Discount Tires doing?

I'm looking at new tires. I read that Discount Tires is open for business but they want you to order online.

I used their Tire Finder on the web site. It could be more helpful as although I clicked on Touring tires it proceeded to show several studdable ice tires.

The web site said they prefer to ship to home and the customer then takes them to an installer.

How does this work? Is it the way they always do it?

There's a Discount Tire by me that is open. I've used them a few times over the years and have never heard of having them ship tires. They usually have them in stock. If they don't, why would they need to ship to your house? That's more of a Tire Rack thing.

They do carry MOST tires in stock but some have to be special ordered.

I just tried their website and looked for tires for a 2016 Cx-5 Sport and selected TOURING tires and thats all that came up, it did NOT show me any winter tires.

Also I don't see where it says they want you to take them to "an installer" only thing I found was the following:

To help you stay safe, Customers are encouraged to reduce the time spent in our stores by going online to purchase product, request a service and book an appointment time.

That does seem like Tire rack, which I've never used because I don't have a tire machine.

I wonder if the tires that came up were based on local inventory. There were two winter tires on the first page of matches but the stores were Denver area.

Maybe it made the shipping recommendation based on the tires I picked, if they weren't in stock locally they would ship.

They just extended the 'stay at home' order so I might as well wait.

Tire rack says they use local installers. Anybody ever use them? They have some good prices.

TireRack's return policy is a dealbreaker, for me. I have used them before and they were fine, but there are better deals out there now. Their website is still useful. Discount Tire and Amazon offer a much better return policy which I value for peace of mind if I'm making a large purchase. Discount Tire is the best local chain, if you have one near you.

"All returns are subject to inspection by a Tire Rack returns specialist and are accepted within 30 days of delivery. Only unused product that has not been driven on and is not damaged is eligible for return."

I'm going to have to pass on that, when Amazon and Discount Tire both have unconditional 30 day guarantees. Amazon has extended return times until May 31st on the items I have recently ordered.

There are Discount tire shops in my vicinity but I guess they don't want 'walk ins' so much while there is a lockdown.

Even if they shipped them they have DT local installers while Tire Rack requires you get a third party installer.

Gotta be a COVID thing.

I imagine each state's "distancing" requirements are a little different, so DT in Colorado and DT in Virginia are likely in different modes of operation for the time being.
