Minor Stealer rant to follow:

Just had to have the fuel pump replaced at 49,000 miles. Died in kid's school parking lot. Classic symptom: cranks, but won't fire.

Since it was too blasted cold to troubleshoot much there and I didn't feel like having it towed home, I let the stealer have it. Big mistake of course.

I got charged as follows:

$227.63 pump
$67.76 gasket (service manual says its not reusable)

$99.95 Diagnostic (1 hr)
$193.50 Labor (1.5 hrs)

$45 Tax and Shop Supplies
----
$533
+$95 towing
----
$628 total experience

Used loyalty points to shave $50

Now I don't mind paying MSRP for parts, but $300 to diagnose and install a fuel pump that is accessed from below the back seat is baloney. No doubt they listened at the filler for the pump, checked a fuse, put a gauge on the fuel rail and measured the voltage on the pump circuit to confirm. That's 20 min tops. Draining the tank, pulling the back seat, popping out the old pump and dropping in the new one is another 60 minutes with seat back in place and all done.

Oh well, laziness and convenience cost real dollars.

Happily, this is the first issue I have had with my '08 CX-9 since taking delivery! (apart from the creaking suspension)
