I was gonna point out the role that CAFE Standards had in the development of CDI engines. But I'm not so certain about blaming corporate profits on this one.

I recall when turning 100,000 was a rarity...now it's the minimum expectation. Corporate greed would manifest itself in a shorter useful life (as it has with appliances.) CDI might be the reverse of an increasing longevity trend, in certain conditions.

While still holding Honda accountable, I gotta lay this one at the feet of Government, our favorite market externality.
