Clutch-related rattle noise.

Hey everyone,
I have an '02 P5 5spd that has an annoying rattle noise.

It's not constant. It only seems to happen when releasing (engaging) the clutch, and then only sometimes and when I've been driving for a few minutes. It will also stop if I punch the accelerator and usually doesn't come back till I change gears again.

I replaced my clutch last year, along with both the throwout and release bearings, thinking it would help fix the problem but the rattle persists.

Just last week I replaced my alternator and, oddly enough, it seemed to kill the rattle. I have no idea why, but the sound did seem to stop. However after another day or two the sound came back, though it doesn't seem as loud.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

It might be one of the pulleys making a noise. The fact that the noise stopped for a few days when you changed the Alt. means it might be related. Take off the belts and spin the pulleys by hand they should turn freely with no noise or binding...

Yes, throwout and pilot bearing. My bad. They are both brand new.

I'm gonna check on the pulleys tomorrow.
