Chipped key...Do I need to go to dealer for programming?

If I order a new key, do I need to go to the dealer to get it programmed or is there a way to do it myself or a cheaper option other than a dealer?

Not the credit card fob which I know there are procedures I can do myself...Just a blank key I will have cut and need programmed.

Dealer says I have to bring it to them for programming.

Ask a local locksmith. They can often supply and program the key for much less than the dealership.
