2016.5 CX-5 Passenger Side Airbag Malfunction? Help!

Hey Guys,

My certified pre-owned 2016.5 CX-5 has had the passenger side airbag OFF light on when no one is sitting in the seat and nothing is on the seat, since having its Smart City Brake Assist recallibrated (due to windshield being replaced). Has anyone had problems with the passenger side airbag being off when nothing is in the seat? For safety, shouldn't the airbag be on when there's nothing there? Thoughts appreciated!

The passenger side airbag is always off when nothing is in the passenger seat. This is the way it is designed per the manual. I suspect it is designed this way so if your airbags must deploy and no one is in the passenger seat you dont have to pay to have that airbag replaced.

Sit in the passenger seat and see if the light goes away. See if it says Drivers side airbag off. LOL
