Even with the rheostat cranked full on, does any one know how the brighten up the audio/time display?

Has anyone come up with a solution to the lack of daytime backlight illumination on the centre gauge of the Mazda 2? (radio, time etc) The dash light control is turned full on. Sorry if this has already been covered but I couldn't find a post.
