P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor A Circuit

03 P5 (x2), 09 Miata, 07 Mazda3, 13 Fit, 09 Ody
So, got this code on my Automatic P5.

I can't find very much info on it. This thread seams to be the most detailed...
https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123826886-Neutral-safety-switch-trouble-shooting

But the links to the pics are dead and that is a manual.

Is the Neutral Safety switch the same thing as the Transaxke Range Switch?

Service manual lists these possible causes...
TR switch malfunction
Short to power between TR switch terminal C and PCM terminal 32
Short to power between TR switch terminal G and PCM terminal 6
Short to power between TR switch terminal F and PCM terminal 9
Short to power between TR switch terminal E and PCM terminal 7
Damaged connector between TR switch and PCM
PCM malfunction

Is the PCM near the OBDII port?

Any detailed advice on troubleshooting?

The 5speed needs to know you're in neutral or the clutch is in.
An automatic needs to know if you're in park or neutral.

They kinda do the same thing so the names are kinda blended together.

Safety First !!
Ya don't wanna start it in gear..

If you order something make sure it doesn't look like this..
This is for a manual transmission.

I've got one switch on my neutral safety switch.(MTX)
You've got 8 tiny switches inside your Transaxle Range switch, any bad switch can set off your cell (the ECU needs to know every gear you're in)

I see 03 P5.........is this sportronic or regular auto?.........or does that matter in this case?

It looks like the same TR switch for Sport and regular transmission.
The Sport version has some extra inputs from the shifter to the ECU.

It is a regular Auto. Didn't even know there was a sportronic (paddles correct?)

Part arrive's tomorrow. Note sure when I'll have time to put it on. Weekend is looking busy may just burn the midnight oil and get it done tomorrow night.

I'll post back success or failure. Haven't read through the whole adjusting it, it is a couple of pages in the service manual.

No paddles, only slapstick..................

Well, I do have the sportronic.

Install wasn't that bad. Didn't really have to adjust anything once I slapped it on. Shifted through the gears about 50 times. So far no issues.

Just go another P0705 - only about 30k miles since I replaced the Neutral Safety Switch
.... rrrrrr.....

Yeah no idea what brand I got last time.
Code went away on its own.
So, holding off on the replacement for now.
