Have you considered trying headrests from other Mazda's such as from the 3 (uhm) AFAIK they are all not the same in terms of design. Should fit into the slots on the seat and maybe help.

Even though we've had the diesel engine here for years, it's always been a small proportion of sales. Vast majority sold here have been 2.0 or 2.5 petrol (gasoline) versions.
