PCV Valve - replaced?

I was thinking of replacing PCV valve

It seems difficult to reach - when I searched this forum, I did not get a single hit.
Anyone changed it? It is so easy on my Integra.

ms2000, here's a link to a few YouTube videos:

Given that the Mazda 5 is based on the Mazda 3, the procedure should be the same. I should change mine at some point - our '09 is at 159K km. If you get to this before I do, please post details of your experience. (We're still in a deep freeze here; I doubt I'll do mine before April or May.)
Be cautious of the Mazda3/6 videos. Most are hack jobs by guys who really don't know what they are doing...

This is the most comprehensive reference that I've come across. The idea is simple, you HAVE to remove the intake manifold. Not a technically hard/challenging job but will take a few hours. LOTS of connectors and hoses to keep track of (lucky connectors are unique fit) if you don't mark them and you have to be creative with your tools/bolts to get them into position.

Dealer tells me if PCV fails, it caused OBD II error - but I can not trust him!
Do you guys have a master list of all the codes - does it show a code for PCV?

I did not see a code for PCV itself. But another m/c said that OBD will give a code say misfire etc. He thinks PCV is pretty much for life unless it fails.

Any system running too lean can be an indication of failed pcv (if pcv stuck closed)
P0171 and P0174 are the common ones.

I will be doing this very soon. Maybe I'll do a write for it. Reason behind me doing it is my thermostat is sticking so I need replace it and it's easier if intake is removed, allows me to clean up all the oil in the intake manifold and behind throttle body that gets past the pcv but mainly to add a my new catch can which can benefit the mazda 3 and 5s greatly in order to keep the intake clean and prevent carbon buildup on the valves. So if your doing a pcv valve or need to do to it because it failed, I recommend adding a catch can while your at it. I picked up a baffled one from Amazon for $30 and pcv valve for $19. Id say not bad to spend $50 for a piece of mind and you will be reminded of your hard labour paying off everytime you dump that catch can knowing all that crap didn't go back into your engine. 😉
