CX-5 Accessory must haves?

Mazda has a soft vinyl cargo mat which covers the rear cargo area (including the backs of the rear seats). It's a great product, better than the heavy duty rubber cargo area protectors.

Agreed.
I got one for my first generation CX-5 and liked it so much that I negotiated inclusion of one with the purchase of my '17 CX-GT ... since transferred to my '19 Signature.

I've seen it on the web. Does it attach somehow, to keep it in place?

Yes, rear headrests are removed and then reinstalled through grommets in the seat back portion. Additionally, there are several patches of "hook" velcro that secure to the carpet.

One nice touch is the extra flap that unfurls to protect the top of the rear bumper when loading and unloading.

This cargo mat is one of the best accessories I purchased for my CX-5.

Yep Mazda OEM, discussed in depth previously..

For OEM Mazda CX-5 Canadian Premium Floor Liners, getting them from MazdaShop / Scarborough Mazda in Canada is cheaper.

Yeah, it's Scarborough Mazda in Canada https://mazdashop.ca/collections/20...loor-liners-1st-row-mazda-cx-5-2017-2018-2019 . You can get them on Amazon and ebay as well, but they are actually a little cheaper ordering direct from the Scarborough dealership, right now $141 for front and $99 for rear vs $150 and $110 on Amazon/Ebay. All 3 have free shipping.

One accessory we installed in our 2017 CX-5 that I haven't seen mentioned is a dog guard to go above the back seats and block off the cargo bay as a space for pets. I researched and shopped a bunch of different ones and really wasn't happy with any of them until I found this Ergotech Pet Barrier.

They're shipped in from Italy, and by no means the cheapest option. Kinda' had to swallow hard and close my eyes to hit the "Buy It" button. But so glad I went ahead and spent the extra bucks.

What's really neat about this one is that it folds out of the way when not in use. It attaches to the rear seat headrest posts, but has hinges with two thumbscrews that allows you to fold it down flat against the back of the seats. Or you can even stand it up when the seats are folded to create a low barrier between the load in the back and the front seats.

Some of the others I looked at used friction bars to wedge them in between floor and ceiling. Two big problems with that for me... 1) You'd have to fully uninstall when you need to use the extended cargo area with the rear seats folded -and- 2) I did not want to risk leaving permanent divots in my carpet and headliner..

Anyway, this one makes a lot of sense and is easy to install. Doesn't rattle and doesn't block rearward vision too much. Only downside is that you can't use split folding of your seats without removing the barrier (detach at the hinges, easy to do - headrest clamps can stay).

*I have no affiliation with the company or this product. I just think it's really well designed.

I just got the 2020 CX-5 sport model and had the Dealer treat the underside with "Fluid Film" because you know how us rust-belt drivers role, with all the salt they dump on the roads in the winter you need the best rust prevention products out there. Anyone else use Fluid Film? What do you think is the best rust prevention product on the market today?

I think Fluid Film is a good rust-prevention coating. The nice thing about it is you can easily DIY with a couple of cans of Fluid Film, a garage jack and a couple of jackstands and wheel chocks.

I love this tray. Even more since I modified it to allow drop-in access to the space below, and allow for taller items (in my case, a bottle of hand sanitizer or a eyeglasses case).

Just use a dremel to cut the bottom off of the smaller bin and smooth the edges.

Nice job Davidiot. I have that same console tray and may try that modification.
You might want to Google that brand of hand sanitizer. Blumen was known to be one of those recalled due to the presence of methanol.

I wasn’t aware of that ... or aware that methanol in the sanitizer was a bad thing. But I have a giant jug of something else acquired since, so I can just refill the bottle. Thanks for that info!

Methanol is a nerve toxin and can be absorbed through the skin.
