Disappointments / missing things in your CX-5?

Just a reminder to keep threads on topic, please...Remember, this one is called "Disappointments / missing things in your CX-5?"
Thank you. This really was meant to be a "gee, I can't believe that this car didn't come with...."

Just purchased my first Mazda, 2020 CX-5 GTR and so far I love it! Coming from a 2018 VW Tiguan SEL Premium, there are a few things that I am surprised that are missing on the CX-5 GTR, however, the ride, power, price, and overall great looks of the CX-5 outweigh these wishlist items.
  • 360 camera, (I know the Signature has it) but the camera on GTR is so old school. At least add the trajectory!
  • a larger sunroof
  • Memory mirrors
  • Remote start
  • Roof rails!
  • Wireless phone charging pad
  • first aid and roadside accessory kits
  • A better user's manual with an index that actually makes sense

I was surprised that the FRONT camera shows dynamic guidelines, but not the REAR. That seems backwards to me! I have to press the 360º view button after shifting to reverse to see dynamic guidelines for the rear and if the infotainment system hasn't finished booting, I have to wait. I don't understand Mazda's logic in this regard. 99.9% of the time, I'm driving forward and have a much better sense of where I will be going forward than when reversing. :)

Speaking only about the Signature Trim, I am 3 weeks in and here are my thoughts.
Shocking that Mazda sees themselves as a premium brand and their "Signature" car does not have remote start. I bought a 2014 Ford Focus that had it, why can't an almost $40K Mazda have it? The retractable car cover should also come included. I should not have to go out and buy something that most every other car comes with after writing such a big check.

Not trolling...just seeking clarification...

What is a "retractable car cover"?

TIA!

Manufacturers are realizing that there's more money to be made by enabling features through perpetual subscriptions rather than a one-time sale. BMW and Ford have announced that they will begin installing options such as a heated steering wheel, but preventing the feature from working unless the owner subscribes to that particular feature. Tesla has been doing this - you can pay $5,000 to enable the AutoPilot feature and $3,000 to "unlock" additional battery range in some models that actually have a larger battery than advertised. The manufacturer obviously makes more money this way, but they advertise the advantage to consumers as "not having to pay for features you don't want or need" while "increasing the future marketability of the vehicle". Someone who lives in Florida and buys a new car may not need or want a heated steering wheel, but if they move up north or sell the car to someone who lives up north, they might. The profit automakers make from subscriptions more than offsets the additional cost of including the "dormant" hardware on every vehicle. BMW started charging $80/year to enable Apple CarPlay last year after previously offering it as a one-time $300 upgrade. People were furious and BMW backtracked...for now.

The Acura RDX, for example, no longer includes keyfob-based remote start. However, all RDX trims include a cellular modem that allows for app-based remote start. If you want remote start, you pay $110/year for it. Acura does offer a dealer-installed, keyfob-based remote start accessory, but unless you plan to keep the vehicle longer than average, it's cheaper to pay the $110/year.

Lol y’all have fun with your foil hats. Just be sure to stay out of the sun and watch out for those 5G cell towers.

Don't equate my dislike of overly connected services and insurance companies spying on my driving habits via phone apps all in the name of saving money on jacked up rates in recent years to being a tin-foil 5g cell nutjob.

Anyway, I was thinking about it the other day. Pretty sure my dome light in my 1998 Jeep GC would turn itself off if I accidentally left it on. My CX-5 definitely does not and will just drain the battery. So that is one things that would have been nice. I've gotten better about it, but I definitely accidentally leave the dome light on over nights or days (since COVID kept me at home most of the time) periodically and had to jump start my battery.

You could put LED bulbs in to help with this issue. They are much brighter and use a lot less energy so less of an issue with drain.

One of the very first things I changed on the car. Only a few dollars to change the bulbs in the front and rear, and they are much better than the incadescent bulbs. The bulb is a DE3175. https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)

Good ideas. I think I head meant to do that and probably forgot at some point.

Thank you both. :)

I have the COB leds and they are very bright. Can't beat the price, ~3 bucks to change the lights front and rear.

Memory mirrors on Grand Touring Reserve and Signature
Gas Struts for front hood
More Comfortable Front Seats
Larger Capacity Fuel Tank

Sorry, I should have typed "Retractable Cargo Cover"

I blame it on my FFS (fat finger syndrome)

Oh OK...I see!

We were fortunate that our salesman "threw one in" with the purchase of our Touring. IIRC it was a $200 accessory...overpriced if you ask me!

I agree. I just came from several Hondas that had capless fillers. It's nice not to have to unscrew a cap, carefully place it into the holder so it doesn't bang against the paint and dent or scratch it, then screw it back on and remember to tighten it properly. Yeah, it only saves like 10 seconds of my life at each fill-up, but it's a small thing that is very convenient. I miss it on my MX-5 and CX-5.

I've owned my CX-5 Signature for a little over a year now, and it wasn't until very recently that I figured out how to store the bloody gas cap.

I couldn't believe when I bought the car that my 2009 Mazda 6 had a holder but the newer CX-5 didn't. I was blown away.

I've only owned my 2019 GTR for about 10 days. I would have like a wireless charging pad. Also, USB ports near the dash would be nice. I came from Hyundai Tuscon and the infotainment system was much better in the Hyundai.

The Homelink buttons really should be de-activated when the car is locked and powered off. Otherwise someone can break a window and use buttons to open garage door. Yes, there are workarounds such as locking the garage door or not parking the car outside, but would have preferred it to be a bit more secure as BMW & Porsche don't enable homelink when car is off.

I think a few mentioned the usual stuff, remote start being one, we were super disappointed when we were told it's an add-on kit.
But I have 2 things that bothered me since day 1
- Simple trip computer. Something I can measure how far and how long i've driven in a span of time that can be reset as I need it. I'm stuck using a phone app (need it for work logs)
- The damn auto hold has to be turned ON every time I start the car. WHY!?

Every one of 30 automobiles I've owned in the last 30 years including my 2020 CX-5 has had a trip odometer that measures how far I've driven since the last reset. Only a few recent Hondas and a new Ford Escort my parents bought back in '81 have had an elapsed timer.
