My 2002.5 P5 AwesomeSauce build thread

Forgot about this build thread lol. Here are some updates. First of all, I'm removing the Haltech and going back to stock ECU for now. The reason I am doing this is because I want AC back in the car and the Haltech cannot control AC. Need to find another engine harness so I can start new with a non-modified harness. Had to remove the dash and put back all the AC components. In order to run AC with no PS, I went ahead and gutted the PS pump, it is now just acting as a tensioner for the AC belt. Need to have some custom AC lines made to keep the engine bay as clean as possible.

New wheels came in a while ago and man do I love them. They are in almost perfect condition! Just had to get a bent inner barrel fixed on 2 of the wheels. Other than that, they are flawless! They are Blitz Type 01 2 piece wheels. 17x9 +40 and 17x8 +38. Running them in a reversed staggered setup with the 9" wheel in the front and 8" wheel in the back. Front tires are Falken Azenis RT615k+ 255/40, rear tires are 235/40.

Also got a new Garrett GTX3071R customized by Brian Lawlor from Signature Products. This thing is beastly! 4" v-band flange welded onto the intake. 3" v-band flange on exhaust housing. Compressor housing powder coated cargo black. Turbine housing black ceramic coated.

Now for some fun stuff. I went and decided that I wanted to clean up the engine bay a little more so I relocated the fusebox inside the cabin near the passenger side glovebox. This was no fun as I had to depin the plugs and pull the wires through the side grommet near the fenders. I also had to extend 7 wires to reach the relocated fuse box.

Here is some eye-candy :)

Penguin, what are the wheel specs/offsets of your black wheels?

Thanks in advance,
Tone

Whats up everyone, decided to create a build thread for my car as it is going to be undergoing some major changes. Everything was completely stock on the car when I first got it besides the lowering springs which gave it a sporty look and I loved it. The car roughly had about ~112K miles when I purchased it for 2k.

Christ man, hell of a car build. Wish I could do this while in College!

That Toyota coilpack mod is unique. I've only ever seen people put Protege 1.8L coils on their cars, but not these! How tough was it to rewire?
Haha, thanks man. I wired the coil packs into a Haltech ecu so it was pretty easy. There's a thread on a different protege website where someone wired in these coils on stock ecu.

Lets try and update this thread.

- The Haltech Sprint 500 has been removed and sold! It's replacement is the newer Haltech Elite 1000. Wired in the Haltech harness to all the stock sensors and completely removed the OEM harness from the engine bay. The stock ECU is still in the car only to control the interior pieces.
- The Mishimoto fan shroud has been removed and has been replaced by two 12" SPAL slim line fans.
- The upper coolant neck has been re-done yet again.
- 98% of rubber vacuum lines have been replaced with -3 AN braided hoses. Not needed by I personally like the look 100x times more than rubber vacuum lines.
- A flex fuel sensor has been added and the car can now run on E85 or regular gas!
- A/C and P/S has been added back to car haha. I made custom -AN braided lines for the P/S system and added a 10 row -10AN P/S cooler along with a chase bays P/S reservoir.
- Painted the IM black.
- Installed the Hydra Motorsports trailing arms.
- Installed Mazda 2 HVAC knobs. These look soooo good!

He's alive!
Great to know you're still tweaking around with the car. Hope to see more activity rather than 6 month increments ;p

I didn't even know Hydra made trailing arms. Must've been discontinued a long time ago..
in a galaxy far, far away...

Haha, I'll try and do better on the update times :)

They did a group buy on the Facebook pages and will no longer mass produce or stock on their website unless there is a large demand again for them. He is now gonna work on front and rear lateral links.
