What have you done to your MSP today?

The guy had a Protg sedan, the Protg 5, a brand new 6 and a new 3. I rolled up in my Mazda hoodie, Mazda beanie and Mazdaspeed tee. When I say their Mazdas, I knew I was getting the car.

Just installed a Ralco RZ Short Shifter. Install went fine, but the threaded end for the shift not does seem long enough to catch on the stock msp shift knob threads. is there some type of adapter I can get (without making the shifter super long) to allow the rod to catch the threads on the stock msp shift knob?

Is the shifter height reduced?

Replaced the HID retrofit controller with a new part under warranty from TRS. Very easy to install and it's much nicer than the piece that came with my kit 2 years ago. Back to working 100%.

(FORGOT TO QUOTE) WAS REFERRING TO PREFERIO'S PIC...

LOL This is funny.. I have the black unpainted bumper on there now too, while I work on my other one. Just thought it was funny to see we are in the same boat. Those things are a b**** to prep. You doing that work yourself or outsourcing it? I understand the best way to prep them is with a fine (grey) scotchbright, followed by some adhesion promoter.

If anyone has done this before and has a "favorite" brand, I'm all ears. I don't wanna do it twice.

I got my thermal spacers today, so its time to take the car down for a few days. I might just start pulling the tranny to do the clutch while I'm at it... IDK. I don't want to get bitched at for having the car in pieces in my driveway though. I need the JDM flywheel to finish the job.. should be here any day.

Wait for the flywheel you can do it in a day man. You need a good jack and block of wood under the engine. Well supporting the engine remove the transmission mount the cross members the front and back mounts and loosen the nuts on the engine side of the passenger mount. Angle engine and transmission and slide it out.

1 day? I really doubt it dude. I am so slow. I've learned if someone says "oh its easy.. took me an hour" That it really means 3. lol Like when people say that rear motor mount is a 4 hour job. I've tried and failed twice already.

I've gotta get that intake off, and finally do that rear motor mount. (hopefully I can make that happen on day 1)
Then do the VTCS delete.. wait for the JB to cure.. I'll end up with the front bumper off again.. (I've got a 45 degree coupler that will make my FMIC piping fitment a lot better)
I'll end up ******* around.. staring at it for an hour or 2 at least while I burn one and think about the future.. lol And the whole time I clean stuff and detail...

Doing the clutch by myself is gonna take me at least 2 days.. I just know it. Something will happen, or I will get held up somehow.. I'm a 1 man team dude.. kinda sad.. I don't have that many car friends.

Shifter heights seems to feel the same. Is the msp shifter know thread size different then the p5 or stock protege?

all the same. only protege with a different thread pitch was the mp3

Do I need forged internals to increase boost to 14ish psi?

I don't plan on doing any major engine upgrades anytime soon (like years), so I'm wondering how far I can go with the stock internals. I still have two major upgrade phases to go, but I'm just looking ahead.

As far as the thread topic goes...

Much of the major issues have been repaired and the car seems to have "settled." I've been have quite a bit of fun with it so far, and since it's my DD, I don't want to degrade it's reliability.

You have a lot of reading and a few other things you'll need to do before you can even think about 10psi.. yet alone 14.

You need to read everything on the first page of this thread http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123677826-The-quot-What-mods-for-a-daily-driven-MSP-quot-Guide-Thread

*Except for "exhaust" There's a 3" Pope downpipe that might not have been available when that thread was written. Thats what a lot of us are running.
*Also they have the SSAFC v2, with datalogging now.. that also wasn't out when that thread was written

But short answer: Yes

It needs to be updated, we have learned a lot the past decade
I mean right off the bat he is afraid of using a front mount because the charge piping may be too long? He lists motor mounts and shifter bushings under 'suspension'??

The gist of it is the same but I or someone should make a new one, we just don't have many new owners these days.

saw that bigwoofers car is for sale so i might try to get some stuff off it. he wants a pretty reasonable amount for it but i cant afford to drop that much money for a full vehicle, even if the partout potential is high.
he has a gemini hood i want for sure and probably corksport p5 exhaust which ive been looking for. he also has coilovers but im much less interested in used suspension. still, i could use the coils and give my wife my sportlines on new excelg or somthing.
ill mull over it.

this weekend though finally getting around to the rear brakes on the the p5. they were badly grooved when i put the car together and just kinda put it off. was gonna swap the msp rears over but thats kind of a pita. i will have to fish out a spindle and axle from the msp though as the p5 ones are getting bindy.
prob gonna machine my stoptech front msp rotors next week to reuse.
also need to check my hvac as i have no heat... adjust my rear suspension links as they allow the bar to hit the muffler support.

if i end up with the gemini hood and some other things i might get back to pulling the engine from the speed and getting her restored. she has basically sat there for 6 months with no attention.

Put Stabil fuel stabilizer in the gas tank in 1345 and let it run for a bit, no telling when the motor will actually be built and installed in the car so it will likely be sitting for a while. Did manage to find the missing 03.5 fog delete/lip insert I had been looking for

I need axle to transmission seals, but my flywheel showed up today.. So ready for a new clutch
