Orange County Choppers All Mazda Meet Saturday JUNE 5th 2010

Back home. Kinda disappointed with the meet. Not sure if I will attend next year. It was great seeing people but it's a long haul for not much of a show.

You should have seen the looks on some people as they noticed they were being passed by 4 red Mazdas. A few of them were laughing and smiling.

Edit: And I was getting compliments on the car after I split off from you all.

HAHA wonder twins......Just making sure someone close has it, I have to grab it and send it out tomorrow.

One of the NEPOC crew definitely has it but I'm not sure who exactly. Mark, Bruce, and I left while people were signing it.

Edit: Hey Mark... I'm glad I had that coffee this morning at breakfast.. The caffeine really helped prevent a serious migraine, but I was still hurting on the ride home.

Disclaimer: I didn't go this year...but...

I know a lot of shows that are around for a couple of years and have the draw like OCC does start losing the core group that kept going there. If you look at Central CT's show or UCONN, new shows pop up that don't draw the same crowd and are on the same day, and people who've gone to the big shows end up skipping in favor for the small ones.

I know I liked going to OCC the first couple of times because it seemed like a smaller, grassroots thing, where as now it's a major thing drawing hundreds from everywhere.

Not trying to downplay the hard work that Ally and Storm do, I mean they're drawing hundreds from everywhere, which has got to be great for business, both OCC and Mazda, but this year was the first time where I really didn't care to go...and I had chances to go for free (ie not my car).

Though maybe it was LRP that both made me tired and craving even more excitement...

Edit: though it was fun for the first time reading Ally's twitter posts and seeing pics online, and having MazdasUSA and Antoine interact with that.

Actually, I think Mark, Bruce, and I agreed that the OCC meet this year lacked a lot of stuff they did the previous times. Whether it be economic downturn or what, I said after the raffles and awards, "Why did I fill out this paper for mods if no one was going to look at it and thet were only doing people's choice award?!" It seemed kinda like a waste of time for some people to drive 4+hrs for this just to watch 1 person win the over all top category, which can be completely biased as I have proved in the past.

I was standing there after the raffles and most popular vote waiting on the best in category only to find out that the most popular was 1 of 2 awards going out. Once I realized that there was nothing else after, we (a few other NEPOC people) were wondering the same thing, "Why are we still hanging out here?!"

All in all, it was still good to see a lot of a great cars from various parts of the area. Lots and lots of nice vehicles came in and I have NEVER seen so many Proteges in one show ever... They are like a dying breed of awesomeness and I have seen they are still around and kickin'. Kudos to you all!

I was kinda hoping I could have had a photo of my MSM infront of the OCC building this year, but I guess the weather and other things just didn't work out. I think that would have been an awesome way to enter the MSM into MotM. Hahaha.

Thanks again Storm for hosting this and having us come out! I know it can be rough and extremely hard to host a meet of this size, but overall I had a good time. Thanks again!

Just wondering if Chris knew his plate wasn't on when he went out with Bruce and Mark. I remember it barely hanging on there when you came to the meet. If you didn't know hopefully you found it and didn't find out the hard way.

I almost got nabbed on 290 in Worcester... But pulled over a Toyota Sienna in front of me. Other than that our rode home was okay. Seems as if CT drivers weren't at their best today...atleast the ones west of Hartford. Maybe couldn't handle seeing 4 of the same car driving together without showing off.

haha...well I do recall one jetta that had some trouble passing you three....

Haha yeah because that Jetta was being a dick so we gave him a hardtime... (evil)

But I agree with the overall thoughts on the show. Though I can't really say how money is spent, I would have liked to see awards go to the Mazda categories like last year than have a moon bounce and other carnival rides. Not sure if that was even part of the reason, just saying the core car show is why I am there. 5 bucks is definitely reasonable, just would have been cool for more awards. The Wicked Big Meet here in Mass for Subarus sells tickets beforehand to secure the funds, though for a lot of money. Just an idea if the budget was low.

It was a fun day and it's great to see all the people come from a far. Also great to meet the merchants up close and personal (also the great deals).

Tony, James has the flag. It was put out late in the day, right before everyone was leaving to go back to MA. So I asked James to take it back with him.

Awesome Zach thanks! I will have to get a hold of him and either see if he can send it out and I will give him the money or I will have to make it to him tomorrow to get it.

Well, damn... If I knew that was the case I would have just sent it out on your behalf Tony considering what you did for NEPOC at LRP.

You definitely did a lot for the team that weekend and I would be more than happy to cover for you.

I can't really speak for the funding of the actual meet, but i can tell you that this year we didn't have nearly the amount of donated give-aways that we had last year (extra t-shirts, hats, pens etc)

and we skipped the classes this year because even though last year every class was people's choice, there was so much backlash about the voting results that we decided not to do it again. (lots of complaints about the winners, not enough specific categories...)

I know how what you mean Ally.. There are a few NEPOC members here who overheard a Mazda 6 owner complaining and bitching about how and why I won one year. It can be completely biased if one club dominates in numbers and votes for their specific people to win.

You just can't please everyone I suppose.

I know I talked to you about the funding and give-aways (bald headed skinny white guy... Yeah that's me!) due to the costs and such. That's totally reasonable and understandable.
