Hey Tool, I just bought an 08 speed 3 from cardinale way...that dealership seems super shady. I have had a lot of great experience with earnhardt mazda in Tempe, you should check with them if you haven't bought the CAI yet. Luke Johnson is my service advisor

yeah. i asked for a 10% discount on the installed price and they said they were firm. will NEVER deal with them again.....

The check engine light issue was one of the problems that caused Mazda to pull their CAI. Not sure exactly what they changed when they released the current version.

Make sure you have a tune done after this is installed. I had a similar issue and in the end after 2 days of diagnostics, everything was perfect but having a higher flow of air caused the engine to run lean in the cold weather here in Cincinnati. It burned out a set of plugs in under 3 months and was causing a LOT of misfires. I had the local dealer put the stock intake back on since I kept all the parts. I paid for labor and they did the other repairs for free under warranty.

I did not wait for the resumption of the Mazdaspeed CAI so I bought the AEM after reading that AEM manufactures the Mazdaspeed CAI. The AEM CAI uses a much larger dry filter and requires removing the shielding just in front of the vents in the driver side wheel well. The filter is also directly exposed to incoming air (and water) through the lower grill.

After driving in a heavy rain, I reached down and felt the filter. It was soaked. So I pulled the system off. Later, I bought some sheet aluminum from home depot, pulled off the front bumper and fabricated shielding to prevent spray from the wheel well vents and also from the grill area.

The new kit comes with an aluminum shield as well from Mazdaspeed. I also got a Injen Hydroshield and it has never been wet at all.

No need for a tune with the second gen MSCAI. As stated, it now has the air straightener that was absent in the first version. This fixes the problem. No cels, no lean running.

And yes, the aluminum shield is in the package for the 2nd gen. Don't know if the first one had it. We get a lot of rain and standing water where I am. I keep checking the filter after running for more than a year and about 15,000 more miles now - never gets wet and is staying clean.

not too bad. You can either remove the bumper or remove the splash guard. The splash guard is preferable given the need to remove it for oil-changes. Most shops won't charge much to remove it if you have a spare filter. That's really the best option. Have two dry filters and swap them so you don't have downtime while cleaning/drying

I checked with earnhardt and they quoted me $200 for just the INSTALL! Epic lulz. Go with something aftermarket and install it yourself - corksport and Cobb have great instruction manuals and its super easy, only using tools you'd have in any basic toolbox.

I waited specifically for the second gen MSCAI. It came with the air straightener. I had 0 issues till the weather got cold. Once we hit 35F or less then I started to get the CELS.It felt like(nuts)

There are a lot of people who get this product while their vehicle is still under warranty. If you fully understand that this can and will void the warranty unless you have a very understanding dealer who is willing to negotiate fixing the problem after the problems occur. I would talk with several people who are experienced with cars and have successfully done this kind of modification, and if need be, be prepared to tune it depending on what your climate is like. Down in Mississippi it is going to be a very different climate in the winter than up here in Ohio.

still haven't saved the money for one of these.

i am in prescott, az, so it dosen't get very cold. i will probably have a mazdaspeed dealer install this, tweak it if necessary.

Hello Guys,

I do apologize if this topics has been discussed before but I'm new to forums.

I did installed a Injen CAI in my MS3 and all of the sudden the CEL turned on. I scanned the ECU and the code was "running too rich in idle" any ideas about how to clear this code for good?

Also I'm planning to get the Cobb AccessPORT ECU Programmer, do you think that reflashing the ECU will eliminate this code?

I have the injen and have not had a single cel. Did you unplug your negative battery terminal before install? Did you clean your MAF before reinstalling it into the new intake? If you have a dash hawk you can clear the code, maybe you can borrow one. AP will do the same if/when you get your hands on one.

Keep your eyes on the For sale thread, I see them pop up all the time for less than half the price of new... Remember, any intake NOT installed by Mazda is not warrantied and will/can cause you problems with warranty work if the dealership is not cool about stuff. May not be beneficial to fork out that much money to have the MS version when that is the case...?

This makes me wonder how long they will be making all the other 1st gen mazdaspeed components. I have the intake, but would also like to get the suspension, cbe, and maybe the lighter wheels. But the money isnt there for me at present

thanks for keeping this thread alive. still haven't bought this but i am going nuts saving for it. but i need so much stuff other than this. my wife isn't dumb, you know.....

price isn't an issue and i can install it but i will pay a dealer to do this so i can keep the warranty and if anything crops up, they will take care of me. i will just email all the mazdaspeed dealers in phoenix, and the best install price wins. and i will demand that i watch the install!!!!!
