had no idea how many people have no clue what a speed 3 is

Hehe, let my boss take my speed 3 out for a quick spin, came back with a giant shyt eating grin, now he wants one of the 2010 speed 3s when they come out. Red Speed3=crack for middle aged people who miss their muscle cars and 240Zs but still want something practical.

I just always figured they went home and looked them up after seeing the rear hatch and wondering why I am not looking at theirs. :-)

I got two compliments on Saturday night. A "hey nice car man" and a "whoa that thing looks way good man"

get a BOV and they will know lol

ya speakin of which is there any recommendations for a good BOV-BPV that is fairly loud or will just puttin like a SRI do the trick?

SRI will give you some noise, you will notice it but others wont hear it as much. The HKS has the whistle at the end and is very loud if left VTA. I had one but had to swap out for the turbosmart which gives you just the whoosh. I couldn't listen to that whistle all the time, and god forbid if I had to take my dad somewhere he b**** about it every time.

Just go to youtube and you'll be able to hear which one you like

Two morons in a fart-canned and slammed 240SX challenged me; I pulled about six cars on them before I lifted. I bet that they still don't know what hit them...(rockon)

Why is it a retarded idea? Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's retarded. Some people like the idea of taking something and building it up into something it wasn't intended to be. It's no different than the guy that takes the old VW Bug and builds the s*** out of it, or the guy that takes a car or truck from the 40's or 50's and turns it into a Hot Rod.

I guess it depends on your motivation. We all have see those d-bags with their riced out civics who they they are the fastest s*** on the block. And I do think dumping $18k on an $18k car to make it faster is retarded. Im sorry I would rather just buy an STI or EVOX. At some point I want to mod my MS3, but you wont catch me dumping that kind of cash on it.

If you just like tuning cars and moding them, fine, choose whatever car you want, if you are in it for the process, the sunday afternoons under the hood.

And I would hardly say the MS3 only exists because of the trend started by the civic. I was always told the MS3 was built to compete in the compact sport ( or is it sport compact) class against cars like the WRX. The civic does not really fall into this category. The WRX by the way is a street legal rally car as far as I am aware. Rally cars are pretty far detached from riced out civics. VW has been making speedy little hatches for longer then the civic has been around.

Even with a loud BPV (dont suggest venting to air) people will only think your car is broken. Very few people will know what that noise was. My car just got out of the collision shop and the guy called me up to ask me what that horrible noise that was from my turbo. My first response was "What the hell are you doing in my car that you would hear that". Once I found out they were test driving it to return it to me I had to educate him how turbos work...

the WRX was brought over to the US when the whole sport compact trend hit its peak. it had been around in other countries for many years. they never brought it here because they thought there was no market for it. then the honda trend started and manufacturers realized they could make money by bringing that type of car over here. i truly believe that the WRX, EVO and a few others would never have been brought here had the Honda trend been so popular. remember the WRX and EVo were made for many years before they ever made it to the US.

just a little info. the VW Scirocco and Golf came out a year after the first Civic.

now i do agree with you on the fact that other auto makers prob would not have taken the chance of bringing there cars to this market, but as was stated before the cars brought here were not based on the civic.

I don't know. I think at some point it would have happened, with or without the civic. Car trends are always changing. Not saying the civic didnt help, but I don't think it was the only reason those cars were brought to the USA. And your right about the civic being older, I read someplace they started late 70s early 80s, but i stand corrected.

Truth be told I really have nothing against the civic, its a fine car, I would even say a damn good car. Been a staple for honda forever. I don't however think it is a performance car. And I think ricing it out to be one is lame.

BTW... back to the sleeper aspect of the MS3. I think the biggest clues you are looking at a MS3 are:
The puff of black smoke you see as it pulls away from you.
The s*** eating grin on the driver
The look of shock and fear on the passengers. :D

And the Datsun 510 was brought over before the civic and people have been racing and modifying 510s since 1969.

The RX-2 was here in 1972, the 240z not long after that, along with numerous other small imported cars with a twang in their step. These were the roots of compact sports coupes, and even they followed in the steps of the failed british brands such as austin, MG, triumph etc...

There has always been a market for inexpensive, sporty, fun to drive cars in the US market. The trick is making it good enough to earn a decent profit. Many have tried and failed.

The only people who've complimented me on the car and known what it is so far have been cool as s*** about it.

Most people in traffic don't give me a second look. Debadge FTW! Yes, it's red, but so are a million other cars these days.

the other day a modded GTi saw my car and slowed down next to me... i just ignored (talking on the phone) him cuz my car was still new so no hard accelerate yet.

Just passed 1k miles so im ready to beat the crap out of GTi now. :p

back on topic-ish -- my two most recent experiences were with a STI who obviously knew what a MS3 was and today a Pontiac G6 who obviously didn't know.

Its funny I find the people with cars like the STI/WRX, EVO, MS3 seem to be more aware of the competition then some other demographics. In more then one occasion I have completely rocked some ford/pontiac/etc freak's world when I tell them my little red wagon has 263 horsies trapped under the hood.

Them: "you got all that under your hood? I had no idea"
Me: "Yeah I love it. Whats that? No, you cant drive it"

I personally like to keep some tabs on other cars, its always fun to know about whats knew on the scene. Kinda cool to see where technology and a little innovation can take you. Plus when you are sitting at a light and some punk pulls up next to you and revs their engine, its good to know which challenges to accept and which ones to walk away from :D

I've been hearing a lot of people say that there is no break in needed for this car.. i still took it easy for the first thousand or so

s*** im only at like 250 miles lol i think i need to drive more, is one 1k the recommended break in period or is it 500? i haven't gone over 4k yet and have still won two races granted they were against a caviler and a explorer lol

it is better for new car to wait for break in period before any harsh driving, if you want your car to last long and dont drive too fast. I think 1k is good.

i dont intent to race yet because my 1st to 2nd gear isnt that great and fast. until then, ill be a sleeper. :)

What's more amazing to me is all the slow cars you guys seem to come up against day after day.

lol, a stock 09 CTS-V will do 0-60 in 3.9s in auto form, and 12.5 1/4mile while toting around 2 tons. sounds pretty slow to me too (screwy)
