i'm new to this forum but have heard lots of great stuff and am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. i have an 03 mp5 w/118,000 on the clock. dirving to work the other day my trans started slippin a little then whamo the AT light came on there was the smell of fluid burning on the engine and i couldn't go any faster than 35-40 mph. i noticed when i stopped to check it out that the dip stick for the trans was loose like it had poped out and there was some coolant overflow like i had overheated but the idiot guage in the cockpit read normal operating temp. on further inspection, the fluid is only on the back of the engine/trans. and is up high between the starter and the rear mount. my fluid level( post issue) is right on the 65 degree mark when dead cold and doesn't seem to climb to much when @ full temp. though it is darker and grittier than i'd expect since i just did a filter/fliud change @ 93,500. any body have any sugestions or experience? i'm taking it in to have the codes read and inspected on monday. i still can't go over 35 w/o using manual mode and 4th is a total waste. thanks in advance

news from the trany shop- the primary clutches are toast and the seconaries are soon to go. est. tab is 1.8-2k for a bare case rebuild w/ current upgrades. any body got a line on reman. trans' figure it might just be easier(or just faster) to replace it. any info would help-considering a manual swap.

You might want to see if the dealerships carry a factory remanufactured tranny, since it is likely to include any upgrades.

Also, you might want to consider changing the tranny fluid every two years, regardless of mileage. My MX6 GT auto tranny now has 145,000 miles on it and continues to work perfectly. I change the fluid every two years, max, since it is so easy to do (when I change the oil).

Goin to the dealership is gonne b real pricey ur better off askin soomeone on here for a tranny I'm sure someone has one
