What bpv to get?

I'm stuck between these two bpvs. The only one I've heard in person is the hks ssqv. I thought it sounded pretty good. But I also like the turbosmart hybrid dual port compact bov. A couple months ago people talked about how great the turbosmart was. From the videos I've watched it sounds like the turbosmart makes a loud psssh sound. And the hks makes a whistle sound. I like the idea that you can adjust the turbosmart. I just don't know what to do or which to go with. Any ideas? positives/negatives about these valves

The HKS makes a whistle when its in VTA mode. Pretty sure it sounds similar to stock in recirc. I would go with the HKS simply because I prefer the sound. Don't think you can go wrong either way you go.

The HKS valve will automatically adjust itself to the car due to being a pull-type valve.

You can change the sound on the HKS by removing the silver fin insert, and leaving it empty which will remove the high pitched chirp. Or you can purchase a purple fin insert which also removes the high pitched chirp and gives it the loud whoosh sound without the chirp. Thos it would be cheaper and easier to simply remove the silver insert and get basically the same sound as if you purchased the $25 purple insert.

I have run the HKS valve in VTA and the car drives almost identical to a recirculated valve, which is good since you will get the loudness that you desire, and without the nasty jerkyness of other valves being vta, it's still running rich which people will b**** and moan about but you dont notice the jerkyness like other valves when run in vta which is the main part of the vta hassle. Of course you can always recirculate the HKS and have it run normally.

You can snag a used HKS with everything you need for almost 1/2 the price of a turbosmart. So i would suggest the HKS over the Turbosmart, tho I have never heard teh turbosmart in person to tell how well it performs and works. The guy I purschased my ETS tmic from had sold his turbosmart valve a few days earlier so I didnt get to hear it in action but he mentioned that the car ran bad and stumbly at least in his oppinion, maybe it needed to be adjusted I dont know. I cannot account for how well the turbosmart works, but the HKS works beautifully and you can change the sound in 3 different ways to get what you want out of it.

Yeah, I heard the hks in vta. I love the whistle sound it made. I should have went down to the movies to see if there were any ricers there that may have had the turbosmart valve

i dont think the ricers could even afford the valve. its actually a great valve just way too expensive.

they do make an ebay knockoff hks valve ;) $42 shipped off ebay haha. I have heard this fake one actually, it sounds just like the real one

I got a used V2 (the real HKS V2 not the knockoff like above) with all the fins, recirc adapter, and MS3 flange, already mounted for $150 shipped. Just have to look around

I don't like the idea of the fitment issue with the hks. That is the only thing negative I have heard about the valve. Haven't heard no negatives about the turbosmart. I just want a bpv that will be alittle louder than the stock bpv. All your hear is air getting sucked it. Thanks for the info though on the knock off.

i wasn't suggesting the knock off, just mentioning it since the other poster mentioned it costs a grip for the real HKS

I dislike the fitment issue with the HKS, I have mine vta and it runs like a recirc valve to me, but its extremely loud which is great.

I would seriously check out that knockoff greddy type-s I showed you a while ago, it sound slike stock but louder and performs awesome! They are like $30 shipped and the flange is $20 shipped from SU, so $50 you get a great working valve that sounds louder than stock and performs great.

my 2 pesos as always (or however many pesos are in 2 cents)

i dont think there really is any negatives with the turbosmart other than the price($320)

Disconnect the hose going back into the intake track....

I've had 3 different valves. Turbosmart, HKS and Forge. I got sick of the HKS whistle really fast. And in recirc, it is similar to stock, maybe a little 'meaner'.

I know that, but people said it would make you backfire alot running it in vta, and shifting was bad

Backfiring with the Greddy type-s in VTA and shifting are TERRIBLE.

The HKS in vta honestly drives almost the same as a recirc valve. It's a tad stiffer but nowhere near terrible like other valves when in VTA. I think this is because the HSK is a pull-type and is pulled shut at idle so it is shut and not leaking causing terrible idle and shifting like the push-type valves are when in VTA.

For running the HKS in vta mode you just unplug the recirc tube, and I shoved a D battery into the end of it to block it. That was it.

You can get the HKS valves used on here with the MS3 flange for less than $200 shipped if you check in the fs section. Like I said I got the HKS with everything needed for $150 shipped.

As for the sound, one person mentioned they hated the hks whistle, while yes it is not nearly as ******* awesome like the Greddy Type-s unfortunately, it still sounds pretty bitchin. Is chirps and gives a great whooshy sound. Thats the sound it makes when it arrives with the silver triple fin insert. But you can remove that insert (its only 4 screws to take it out) and then leave it without the fin and it will not chirp it will just make a straight up whoosh sound without the chirp/whistle. You can also buy a purple insert to replace the silver insert, and the way the purple one is shaped it changes the pitch to an aggressive whoosh.

So if you're looking for chirp/whistle and loud whoosh, thats the silver fin. If you're looking for plain whoosh thats taking out the fin all together. And if you want the aggressive whoosh it would need the purple insert

you're a good guy bonafide I remember helping you out on the bov situation last year. I just took some pics for reference for you:

what the HKS valve looks like installed. You can see my blue recirc tube and the D battery stuck in the end to block it off

closeup of the front of the valve, that triple silver fin is what makes the chirp sound, but you can take it out for the purple fin or to put the recirc adapter in. you can also take that fin out and leave it empty and it will whoosh instead of chirp/whoosh

hks valve with recirc adapter, you remove 4 screws on the front of the valve and it pops off, you can remove that silver fin and stick the recirc fitting in there

at one time you wanted the greddy type-s, here it is next to the hks for size comparison:

Thanks for the pictures man, I appreciate it. Your car is so sick. Can't wait for the economy to get better so money will be easier to make. Wish I could get the ets tmic, but the wife says that is too much money. You don't have your car tuned or anything? What happened to your greddy type s? Well thanks again for the info. Have you seen or heard the turbosmart in person? I'm leaning towards the hks, I'm just curious on how the turbosmart is.

what about this one? It is the new turbo smart BPV, unlike there duel bov/bpv it is just a BPV and is only 159 BUCKS!!! you can also adjust the stpring by turning the top. But its only at street unit.
Its a preorder now!. Looks sweet
