Dyno with Stage 1+ SF 1.03 91 Octane and SF intake, troubleshoot the dip, good power

so i got my car dyno'd again last night with the SF intake, AP with stage 1+ SF 1.03 91 octane map and a turbo inlet pipe. Car hit a 5.9 knock when floored and also seems to have hit a boost cut for a sec during the knock time. See attached dyno for a huge dip. Knock went away when higher rpms were reached. Putting in Denso itv22 plugs today and going to have cobb turn the boost down a bit. Ideas?

On the brighter note, she made 22 wheel horsepower and 15 torque throughout the board with this map vs a Mazdaspeed intake as short ram on the stock map.

Awesome numbers man! Yea, I'm wondering what that nasty dip at 3300 - 3600 rpms is all about. A DP or TMIC should easily push you over 300 whp.

same setup as me, where did you take it to get dyno'd? Those are some really good numers as well! Where did you order your plugs from, cause I am in the same boat as you.

Got it dyno'd at Dynolab, Inc. in Marietta, GA. Talking to Christian at Cobb tuning about the dip and going to do another 4th gear pull (on street) with logging for him to review. I am asking them to adjust the tune for free to match the specified targets shown on their website.

Since i have exactly what the map calls for and higher octane than required, i dont think 5.9 knock is appropriate and safe at all under load when the Denso ITV22's are installed. Also, if the car is overboosting beyond their 17.5psi max spike goal with tapering to 14-15 by redline, i am asking them to adjust the torque targets to meet that boost goal and not spike past it. I have the stock exhaust, BPV and intercooler so i think its fair to expect them to back their maps.

He mentioned that i needed to ensure my fuel pressure was up to spec at WOT, which i will be logging as well. I dont think a 17.5psi spike is enough to down the fuel pressure but we will see, maybe it spiked too high for the pump. Dont wanna drop $635 on a new one right now anyways!

285.3 and 308.8 with 15% loss accounted for is about 335 horsepower and 363 torque at the motor, give or take, so im positive i need the one step colder plugs (50+ hp over stock). Hopefully they will add a margin of safety and backed with Cobb's assistance we can level the boost out and A/F too so it will run around 275 at the wheels (if boost decrease is required).

What do you all think?

PS- thanks for the compliments, exhaust is staying stock b/c i want some longevity out of the motor and dont want that much more power, daily driver to work after all.

I will be taking my car to Dynolab after I put in my TMIC and 1 step colder plugs as well.

Send me your phone number and we could meet up sometime there or if you need help installing something. My friend has a back 99 Trans Am with a cam/intake manifold/headers/intake/MAF/catback that needs a tune too. Arthur is a really nice guy (at Dynolab). We always enjoy watching the cars run.

Nice numbers !!

I have been looking at that same kind of a setup. I am looking at a MSCAI & a stage1 91 with the cobb ap, or the CAI, and a TMIC using the factory tune. I cant decide if the AP is worth that much money.

Read his post again, he gained 22 hp and 15 lbft from just the Cobb AP. But he must have picked up some serious power from just the intake and inlet pipe.

I will be adding some colder plugs very soon and would like to make a pull or two, and I live in Alpharetta GA so I might check this place out as well, I think with the assistance from COBB and the new plugs you are going to feel more secure about the changes the AP made, again those are some great gains!

We should all set a date to do some runs at Dynolabs. I should be getting my TMIC in next week, so maybe sometime next month?

My baseline dyno included the HTP turbo inlet pipe and a mazdaspeed cold air intake in short ram with the airflow straightener. Stock tune on that run. The second run with the dip is just the addition of the AP stage 1+ SF 1.03 91 octane map, for a gain of 22hp and 13tq.

yes, his baseline dyno, 263hp reveals his MS3 magically has no drivetrain loss.

Hehe, reread the OP's first post!

MSCAI have been known to give 25 more hp alone, and I imagine the inlet gave him around 5 hp on top of that.

Quick note: The off the shelf map is going to take some adjusting and some Denso ITV22 spark plugs to avoid knocking. Just an FYI.

What kind of dyno do these guys use? You obviously have the dyno sheet to prove it but the #s seem awfully high still.
