I picked up one of the new 2008.5 MS3 GT IPM Pearl White. so its a new stereo style with the MP3 playback. the sub will stop with the bass then eventually the doors will not bass. all I hear is the HIGHs and no mids or low. If anyone else experienced this problem please let me know.

Yes, MP3 CDs are now supported.

I would just let the dealer take a look at it -- it's under warranty, and sounds like either a faulty head unit, or maybe a short somewhere.

I have an appt. with the dealer next Wed 3/19 about mine (08.5 crystal white) with this same issue. Mine shows up at volume level 35. Level 34 is almost muffled then 35 is completely different. I'll post up any results.

I've got the exact same issue. The lows just randomly come in and out above volume 35.

Okay, well, I just got back from the dealership.

What I was told was that they contacted Mazda directly and its actually a software program loaded into the deck. Its supposed to function somewhat like a sound equalizer. The tech that I had spoken to had almost the same type reaction that I had having heard the problems first-hand.

Long story short: no solution to the problem.

They gave me the Mazda 1-800 number and advised me to call in directly and register the issue so that it can be addressed.

If possible, please take a few minutes and register the problem if you've experienced it so that it might be looked upon as a commonly occuring issue rather than one of isolation.

The number is 1-888-222-5500.

Ahhhh... dude. This doesn't sound good (no pun). I pick my MS3 up next week and then have a 2k mile round trip the week after. I thought I'd be groovin' with the tunes in a quality system.

weird
I hope mazda does release a flash update for these head units
yes, they ARE flash upgradable as proven by the sirius satellite radio recall on some 06s

It does sound as though a simple flash of the software might be the resolution. Now...how long it takes Mazda to get around to it is another issue all together.

How frequently do you experience this? I have an 08.5 and just went and put a Rage Against the Machine cd in and listened for about 15 minutes with it cranked up to 42. Not a single cut out.

I'll bet it's just a High Pass Filter that's programmed to limit bass after a certain volume.

The way I see it: If Mazda is smart enough to limit Torque in 1st and 2nd gears on MS3's, and they're smart enough to program a throttle plate adjustment after 5500 rpms to prevent damage to the engine, then theres probably a good chance they cock-blocked you from blasting your "Bose" system to it's potential and possibly blow the speakers.

In the end, it'll only save them money on Warranty replacements.

My SS has Bose and it sounded pretty weak with the OEM radio. When I swapped out with Aftermarket, the Bose components got WAY nicer and had some oomph! Maybe it's a Bose programming thing? Or better yet, maybe the Amp is overheating?
