How come Traction Control doesn't work...?

It's been puzzling me for a while now... How come the MS3 traction control system doesn't control wheel spin? The only time it kicks in is if the wheels spin during a gear shift. But if you engage the gear and then during the torque band wheels start spinning, the ECU does nothing... (huh)
It doesn't even help on wet roads...wheels just spin freely...with a stupid blinking light that serves no purpose other than stating the obvious.

On other cars, as soon as the wheels spin/lose traction, the ECU kicks in, no matter the conditions...

Umm, with mine on (very rare) and the tires start to brake loose from a second gear roll, I hit a brick wall. It will allow the wheels to spin, just VERY briefly, then it stutters and stumbles and does some kind of braking crap and then applies power again. A very sloppy traction control if I do say so myself......

Mine is similar. Not so much a "brick wall" but once my tires begin to spin, it cuts power until I get traction again.

i have noticed what you are autox. however the others are correct. it does limit power you just have to stay in it for a second. i noticed that if i let off a bit then you dont feel the traction control kick in, but if you stay in it you will feel it cut power a bit

I think it just depends on how bad the wheelspin is. I've had mine (today actually its raining) just blink and then it will slightly reduce power to regain traction. Then later I really nailed it and spun really bad and it totally killed power. So just depends how bad the spinning is i guess.

Autox, try datalogging throttle pos. doing a 2nd gear roll where the tires break loose and during the 1-2 shift. You should see the throttle plate close dramatically. I've logged it on the DH a few times. But my car also seems to control traction regardless of the conditions. But logging it will be a good way to prove either way if the ECU is doing anything.

I find it no help in getting through the snow. I live in MN and have not purchased snow tires. My morning ritual goes something like this: wake up, shovel driveway, warm up car for 30 minutes, get stuck in driveway even though I just shoveled it, curse a bunch, shovel snow that isn't there and ponder at why my car is still stuck, push, flick off the neighbors for staring, rev car in reverse until the wheels are smoking and finally break free. Go to work pissed.

I find that the harder you're on it, the more effect the traction control has.
Full throttle to wheelspin and the ECU kills the power completely. Half throttle wheelspin and it dials it back just a little.

Having spent a lot of time driving older cars that didn't have all these "driver aids", I find myself laughing when the I feather off the throttle or brakes at the same time that the computer is killing the power or activating the ABS.
It's actually kind of annoying.

I wish the driver aids were "opt in" so I had to turn them on when I wanted them instead of having to remember to turn them off all the time.

I will try to data log...

I roll into WOT on 1st to wheel spin to red line, 2nd (not popping the clutch) wheel spin to red line, and eventually 3rd... No traction control enables...

Roll into WOT 1st to wheels spin, 2nd pop the clutch and BANG, hit a wall; traction control enabled!!!

I thought traction control was for any kind of wheel spin... (huh)

I'll have to data log...

Yeah i think the traction controll really does do much in snow..i had a hard time driving in 2inches of snow on an incline...i had to actually stop and laugh to myself while i watch others drive by me ...i would say the MSP3 is my worst car yet driving in the snow..To be honest i've never really noticed mine to work on serious wheel spins..

I couldn't get a clean run tonight... I couldn't even get the tires to spin...
I did manage to get the traction control to kick in though...hard 2nd gear shift.

I'll try again tomorrow morning on my way to work... I usually get really good tire spin. (burnout)

Just turn that electronic nanny off man.:D

it happens to me alot, i do 1st-2nd pulls without shifting fast and i get spin without cutting. when i shift hard 1-2 i get the cut and the car dies

I found out there is no traction control in reverse either.
Trying to back up a slight uphill driveway covered in ice proved futile, owned

My car doesn't hit a brick wall, its softer when TC kicks in and allows a fair amount of wheelspin.
My previous 03 Mach 1 had a brick wall for traction control. I literally hit my head on the steering wheel once during a 1-2 powershift LOL

I think I got a perfect 2nd gear wheel spin data log this morning...
I need to do a hard 1st to 2nd to kick in the TC data log.

I'll post these tonight.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one whos TC does nothing for wheel spin...

yea its strange, in the rain ill get spin but not nearly as much as if it was turned off. Its like the car is playing with the throttle i feel sometimes. But on dry street its wierd, i would ahve thought that it would cut in after detecting spin. ur logs will show us hopefully

why when i power shift 1st - 2nd the car bags??i don't think thats the traction control working..that light doesn't even come on plus i don't get any wheel spin, then its like i smell the clutch burning after that too..what's with that??
anyone else notice that??we should be getting a lil snow tonight so i'll test it again..
