Evo X pricing announced

Mitsubishi today announced pricing for the highly anticipated 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. The estimated price for the base-level, five-speed manual-transmission-equipped Evo GSR is $34,000. The MR model outfitted with Mitsubishi's new six-speed dual-clutch transmission identified as the Twin Clutch-Sequential Sportshift Transmission (TC-SST), starts at $39,000.

Mitsubishi officials say this is a conservative estimate, and hope that final pricing will come in approximately $1,000 less for each model including delivery fees. The previous Lancer Evo IX sedan started at $28,679 for the base car, and $35,189 for the MR trim.

Mitsubishi says the Lancer Evo GSR will go on sale in February, but isn't as specific regarding the Evo MR's timeline, only saying the car would be available in the spring of 2008. The vagueness seems to be connected to delays in the advanced MR's tuning.

Also announced today were official EPA ratings for the Evo X. The GSR earned 16/22 mpg for city/highway, while the paddle-shifting MR did slightly better with 17/22 mpg.

The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X made its worldwide debut in October at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show.

I thought the STi had its work cut out for it until now. Now, I'm not sure I'd pay for the Evo. For $39k, there are a lot of other cars I'd buy. Probably not much with this performance, but definitely nicer ones.

Don't get me wrong: If you were to dangle the keys to both of them in front of me, I'd grab the 'Vette's every time, but I don't have the option of owning a 2-seater every day.

The Z06 is not the only Corvette with balls.

34K for a 5 speed that's slower than it's predecessor (I've read 5.4 secs to 60 for the GSR) and 40K for the twin clutch...sorry but its still based on an econobox platform...same as the Sti. Good luck getting Americans to shell out the big bucks for these cars...

Kudos to Mazda for giving us plenty of performance for peanuts compared to these two that are IMO overpriced and not the drivers car they once were...sorry but for the money give me a 2008 425 horse hemi challenger or even better a 440 horse LS3 Chevy Camaro...I hate to say it but the American Cars will be getting my vote this time around! Go ponies!!

Thats fine. You can have your challenger and camaro. I have no beef with domestics. I would just rather have the EVO. The challenger and the camaro will be just like the new mustang. You see one every stop light.

The reason why the domestics have my vote is because for once the American car companies are giving people what they've been craving for decades which is huge power, incredible head turning design, and reasonably priced. Don't get me wrong the EVO is one of my favorite cars ever, and the outgoing model was probably one of the best driver cars out there. I love Japanese cars...I own an MS3 I just think that this new crop of EVO's and STi's doesn't have the performance or enthusiast appeal they once did which is disappointing to me. Even if the new ones have the super duper all wheel drive and what not...they just aren't living up to their heritage. But to each his own...

If the domestics can get it right where it counts - the driving dynamics - the imports will have some competition to worry about. Otherwise, all the big numbers in the world aren't going to count for too much.

The EVO X is nice but for the same money I could be in a BMW 335i or Pontiac G8 GT.
