Soo i know it sounds dumb but i have the worst sence of direction EVER. this weeknd i took my dads car to NYC because he has navi in his car.... it got me there with no worries.

my MS6 didnt have the option of comming with one when i got it, only american MS6's had the option...

so i just bought myself a portable pioneer navi, and was wondering if n e one has bought either this one or any other model, id like to get some feedback as to if it works well...

plus i was thinking of building an encloser box for it in the dash cubby...

thanks:

there have been a few people that have done carpc setups with Nav, but not a lot of talk of standalones that i know of.

i have a portable nav (Garmin Streetpilot C330), had it for 2 years now, and it has more than paid for itself in saving me time and getting me to places far and away.

Once you go GPS you never go back :D

I also have the Garmin C330 and I travel quite a bit for work. It has paid for itself in savings in Mapquest printouts and ink. I also have the factory nav, but the Garmin is 100% better.

I have the Garmin Streetpilot c320. It was cheap, and lacks all the additional features of bluetooth, MP3 player, photoviewer, etc that the Nuvi has, but let me tell you, it does the GPS thing great.

The best part is that it fit perfectly in my upper compartment (without the battery charger attachment .. luckily the internal battery is good for 6+ hours) and I was still able to close the lid and hide it.

Plus, the internal antennae on my GPS is better when in this storage compartment, than my friend's NUVI when it is sitting on his dash. Go figure.

im soo happy im getting one. it is a must for me, i get lost all the time!

im gonna try and see what materials i need to build an enclosure for it, i have no clue how to use fiber glass....worst comes to worst ill attach it to the windshield.

thanks guys.

p.s post pix....

my mom uses a garmin, and its pretty sweet. my dad uses a magellan pretty sure is the brand, which i haven't used ever but he says its good.

i have the Garmin c340 i love it i use it everywhere its save me from sitting in traffic so many time its never taken me to the wrong place and i would get the Garmin c340 its more but its better and its worth it

I have the nuvi 680. Best investment ever. I have navigation obviously along with traffic updates, weather updates, bluetooth so I can answer my phone handsfree, built in fm transmitter so I can listen to audio coming from my nuvi through my bose in my speed 6. Life is good.

i have the tomtom ONE nav unit. it is prob the best/coolest thing i own inside my car.lol saves so much time and its cool to just have on when friends step inside the car.lol

i wish there was a way to hardwire it into the car so it came on when the cars turns on and vice versa. but the portable and rechargeable battery feature is very nice too. best 300 bucks spent.

is teh fm transmitter built in or is it an external piece? cuz thats really cool!

navigation is something that i see adds weight to a vehicle but thats my opinion... the one for the car looks cool.. i just would never buy it nor a portable one for the same reason.. but to each ur own.. good luck.

yes, 3lbs (if even that) of portable nav is gonna cost me soooooo much speed on a 3000+lbs car...

i race my car alot.. every pound counts at the track. 100lbs is .1 off ur 1/4 mile time ruffly.. which could be the difference of being in the 13's to hitting a 12.9. but ur right the portable ones are light in weight but the it being a weight issue was my opinion.
